Going to a free outdoor concert tonight!
They have a free "Jazz and Blues Concert" on Sunday nights down by the boardwalk in Long Branch, NJ. Tonight is the second of the year and I hope it's a blues band. Last week they had a "funk" band which I'm not too interested in. I'll try to take a few pics and post them later.

...Jersey summer!!!...
...my girlfriend grew up in Jersey (Cherry Hill),went to Princeton, and during the summer months, would head out to the beaches...she's going back this week for the 4th,sans the appendage (me),and she's planning on some beach time...several years ago we spent some time hanging at several of those beaches, and what a culture!!!...it's definately different there,as opposed to southern Cali beach culture...

That's pretty cool... so how're the Jersey beaches compared to the SoCal beaches?

...well...
...aznrambo,you live near one of the finest beaches I've ever been to in "Wind-an-Sea" (is that correctly called)...it's as different as the coastal culture's are...didn't see much as much surfing, course,I wasn't paying that much attention..mostly saw a lot of boardwalks on the east coast...people do the same things, but with a different accent...last year I went to a well known Long Island beach, and there was in incoming summer electrical storm that forced us all to clear the beach...I think that weather difference makes for a unique experience...

I've been to Venice Beach and a couple of others in Cali. Not as much traffic in Jersey and the beaches are mostly next to suburban areas. The water is kind of dirty compared to Cali's. All along the state the beaches are pretty shallow sand beaches so there's only "beach break" for surfing. These days there are a lot of surfers around. A lot of teenagers are catching on that surfing is pretty cool. The waves are pretty tame compared to some of the Cali beaches unless an offshore storm comes up. Most of the year the surfers wear the dri and wet suits because the water's cold. Right now the water's getting warm. I don't surf but I surf fish so I see them a lot. BTW- I've also been to Hawaii and have seen the waves at North Beach and Waiimaia Bay(sp) during a storm. I went down to listen to the music for about an hour but Doofus (me) forgot about the bugs and didn't use "Off". I had to get home and shower. They fixed up the place where they hold the summer music pretty good. They now have a nice pavilion and a beetchin' PA system. The sound is loud and clear- but not too loud. It was a blues band and they were pretty good. I'll post pics tomorrow.

COOL
I am going to see Derek Trucks in a free concert on Tuesday at a venue that overlooks the gorge on the mighty Niagara River and lets you see the Brock Monument in NF Ont.
Summer is great! |

Derek Trucks ought to be a great show.
Every year L.L. Bean puts on a series of free summer concerts at their "flagship" (what we used to call the "only") store in Freeport, Maine. Wednesday, July 4th Robert Cray and his band will be there, and so will I!

That's pretty cool. I've visited the East Coast but never been to/seen the beaches there.
Bluetele, I am currently 15 minutes away from Windansea. In fact, the high school I attend is 3 blocks from the beach, and the football bleachers have an ocean view. We could walk down there from the school in 5 minutes (not to brag, or anything...) We're also a 15-minute run away from La Jolla Cove (seals!) and about a 30-minute run away from La Jolla shores (kind of a big tourist beach that fills up by 8 or 9). Yeah... I run.

Those pics are from a block away from the concert place. I took them last September during high tide and after an offshore storm. You can see some of the surfers in the distance in the first pic.
