Tony Joe White is another that has always kinda stayed under the radar...like J.J. Cale. But he has a soulful style and aura that has almost given him a cult following. And, being the writer of "Rainy Night In Georgia" and "Polk Salad Annie", I'm sure he's been able to live a fairly comfortable life from the residuals. He's always been one of my favorites.

I have "Did Somebody Make A Fool Out Of You" on the Uncovered album it's a duet with Tony Joe White and Eric Clapton.

JJ Cale, Mark Knopfler, Michael McDonald, and Waylon Jennings do one song a piece...

There's a great 2 vol. compilation called "Country Got Soul". It's all 70s stuff like Tony Joe, Travis Wammack, Charlie Rich (doin "Hey Good Lookin"!), Dan Penn, Bobbie Gentry and the like. Not all great, but what's good is really good and worth a listen.
