Best Way To Get A Good Epi '56 Les Paul...
...I don't live near any store that would carry multiple models of Epi '56 Les Pauls to try out and pick the best from. Are there any stores/internet sites you would trust to pick a good one for you? Whom would you recommend? Thank you.
Tom

I recently bought an SG Classic on ebay and am absolutely thrilled with it! My criteria is simple, I look for someone with 100 transactions that has a rating of of 98.5% or better. There's a ton of good deals on 56's that are marked "2nd" or "Used" because of miniscule cosmetic blemishes that most people would get inside of a week anyways. There's no reason why you couldn't pickup something sweet for between 300-400 bucks.
Recently I just saw a "Sunburst '56 Epiphone" with P-90s on ebay and I must say it was drop-dead gorgeous. I can't for the life of me remember what it was going for.

stan,
I appreciate your reply. And I know there are great deals to be had on Ebay. However, I'm just wondering if there's a way of buying, say, the best of three '56 Epi Les Pauls that Musician's Friend or Sweetwater Sound (for example) has in stock. Do any dealers have people trustworthy enough to try out 3 or 4 guitars and send me the lightest and most toneful one? Is there even such a place? Thanks. Tom

Tom, have you checked out Wildwood or Daves? I'm not sure what either one has in stock for Epiphone, but I recently dealt with Steve at Wildwood on a '54 Thinskin Strat, and couldn't be happier with what he picked out for me, using my criteria. Maybe worth a shot...
