What are my options here? (Guitar hunt)
I am looking for a guitar for a new project I am getting involved in. Preferably something under $500. I have a Dearmond M77T that is great, but it's too heavy for the live gigging I want to do.
I want something with either Dearmond pickups, or Filtrons. And I'd like a Bigsby. Semi-hollow, or chambered would be ideal. I have a bad shoulder, and I get pretty intense when I play live so I'd like something lighter. My IDEAL guitar would just have a single Filtron/Dearmond in the bridge and a Bigsby, but I don't even know if that exists. ANY suggestions are appreciated. You guys know a heck of a lot about what's out there then I do. The closest store is 45 minutes away, so I like to do some advance research. Thanks |

I like that Corvette. Haven't played one, but they look pretty cool.
I know you were looking at a Pro Jet. If you want to get more into the Gretsch thing, check out a 5120, the Electromatic version of the 6120. Great guitars and sound great. It's a hollowbody and pretty light. It's a little more than five bills, but it's worth it. |

Ibanez Artcore, maybe?
Um, I think you mean "Filtertrons."

You might also try the 'parts-caster' route... I don't know that you could easily do it at your budget, (IOW - it might take a while to find the parts at lower costs), but you could put together a thinline tele body, with a neck of your choice, with a 'tron' or dearmond pickup and a bigsby bridge. If you were able to do most of the basic finishing and assembly work yourself, and possibly have a tech put the 'final touches' together, you might be able to get into something about like that...

That Corvette is pretty cool looking. I never even knew that model existed.
Chris S I actually had one of those. Great guitar, but I learned quickly that I like guitars with a smaller bodies. I have seen some great hollow Gretsches that have a smaller body. And obviously something like the Pro Jet which I am considering. I wish Now I had kept my Melody Maker (the single P-90 version). It would have been worth adding a Dearmond and a Bigsby to. A "Pro Jet Jr." would be fantastic. That look, but with one pickup. |
