what happened to the sabres? NHL

i've been pulling for these guy's to try and win the cup, after they were robbed of one by a bad call (sorry Stars, but Hull's foot was in the crease) and now they can't find the back of the net.

Sorry, Stan, but the beauty of a seven game series is that it can never be blamed on one bad call. 2 maybe, but not one.

Sad to say... They're getting their butts handed to them. Ottawa is just plain hungrier and working harder.
Big Sabres fan here but I fear the end is close. No way are they going to win four before the Sens win one more.

back of the net? They can't find anything near the net. The Sabres only got 15 shots on goal last game. It's over.

Dude, this is tough enough and you had to start a whole thread to remind me?
As my dear departed grandfather would say, "What a bunch of bums!"
Here's how I see it. Ottawa beat us all season, our PP & PK were poor all year, and we rarely played hard for a full 60 minutes all season. Remember the first 10 games? They didn't dominate most of them and they still won. At that point we all drank the kool-aid that this was the best team ever (I'll admit I did too) and the players believed the hype.
Now reality is setting in. They really didn't play too great in the first two series and now we're playing a kick ass team who, more importantly, really wants to win. The lack of heart is depressing.
At the end of the series I'll put this avatar away until October, I'll follow the moves in the offseason (give Stafford a full time spot on the roster!) and pick it up again in the fall.
I'm a Buffalonian through and through, regardless of where I happen to actually live, and they've been my team since I can remember anything - which is about as long they've been around. Thanks to Tommy G. the organization is strong so I'm not worried about not contending in the coming years.
Sorry to go off on a rant, but you started it!

Simple...they choked. After watching Ottawa distroy the talent laden Penguins...I knew that they had a desire to go all the way this year. They're playing with a real hunger. I hope they get the Cup this year...they've fought hard.

Ottowa is a machine. Very impressive.

Apoligies in advance, but I just have to post this.

See Ottawa didn't have to face Toronto this year, that's the difference.

Buffalo's powerplay is terrible, if they can get that rolling it might be a different story. You can't say it's over till it's over. Wasn't it lasy year Calagary was down 3 games to 1 to Detroit but they still came back? Maybe I'm imagining this.

I don't see how Toronto was a factor in this at all. Please expand.

I never bought them as a playoff team. They don't have the grit, determination and moxy to win a Cup, not with this lineup. They could keep the same team intact and win the next 5 President's Trophies and not get a whiff of the silver.

Just saying if Toronto was in the playoffs and were playing Ottawa in the first round, Ottawa would have been sent to the golf course by now. Just a stupid joke, don't mind me.

Some years the Bisons would let ya down, some years, many years the Bills let you down, and the NBA franchise is so long gone I forgot the name. But the Buffalo Sabres have gotten many a Buffalonian through the long winters over my lifetime. With all due respect, this is probably more important in the long haul than the Cup. Spring comes, and the boys get distracted, again.

Well said, lest we forget, in the three years before the lockout we didn't even make the playoffs. This isn't sour grapes, I'm mad as hell with their play in this spring, there's no excuse for being "distracted" in the spring. But they're still on life support for at least one more game.

Buffalo Braves was the basket ball team but I don't think it was the NBA...I think it was the ABA at the time (or some other league competing with the NBA) kind of like the old NFL/AFL rivalry.

The Sabres got real lucky last night. They had a 3 goal lead and almost blew it! Miller is the ONLY one still playing with fire in his eyes. I think that if Buffalo screws this up Lindy Ruff will be gone next year. He gets them to the playoffs but can't close the deal. I hope he reads this and gets PO'd at me and proves me wrong but I am not holding my breath!
