Limbaugh resigned from ESPN - Big Suprise!!
I just don't understand why network TV hires people who are known to be controversial, and then when they do something that they are known for they get fired or "resign".
Same thing with Bill Mahr and ABC. They pick up his show Politically Incorrect and then when he says something politically incorrect he gets fired and they cancel the show. What did they expect? They knew it wasn't going to be The Brady Bunch. Sorry for the rant. Back to playing my guitar. |

Exactly!
Probably the same goob that told him in the meeting the day before that he needed to be a little more controversial is the one that asked him to resign when it blew up on him. This is all speculation on my part of course, but we all know that's how the industry works...

i have never understood his popularity...
so it's cool in certain circles to be conservative and attempt to make things as they were back in the 50's or something like that. no prob. understanding that concept...
no problem there, but how did this guy get elected as the voice of the G.O.P.? conservatives just can't count on getting the minority vote if their poster boy is caught making remarks which, racist or not, are interpreted as such. it's no wonder more and more of us are becoming independents - neither party can get it right and put some candidates or guys like Rush out there and have much of anything sensible come out of their mouths. and this whole Ahhnold thing just cracks me up. i say they elect him, just to see if they can screw up California any worse than its current state. yeah. simply ridiculous. as ridiculous as Jimmy Kimmel leaving the Man Show. at least Jon Stewart, Colin Quinn, and Mr. A$$hole himself have made a smart move over to Comedy Central. now we just need a show or channel for all the famous people who are good at saying one thing - the wrong thing.

Re: i have never understood his popularity...
Well, I do not listen to Rush, my point was that ESPN hired him because he is controversial to help boost their ratings, which DID happen. Now he is resigning because he said something that was controversial... ??? helloooo.
The bad thing is, his comments were directed at the media and NOT at McNabb. He's resigning because his comments were misconstrued. But, I'm sure he'll be OK. Like him or not, his show is on like 600 or so affiliates... Quote:

...beat at his own game
I think Rush...(who does a masterful job of "spinning" for a conservative platform) was trying to get a "dig" in at the "liberal" media (the same media he holds in disdain) and got slammed instead - for being a racist or at least making a racist remark.
I don't think Rush is a racist. But I do think its amusing that he got fired...his comments were "spinned" around on him...he was criticizing the media and was fired for attacking a black quarterback. Sometimes it takes "karma" awhile to show up - but eventually it happens. I bet Clinton is laughing his a$$ off.... Anyway, its all entertainment... Al Sharpton's reaction and comments are just as amusing. Oh Yeah, In regard to a successful black quarterback...anybody remember Warren Moon? (Luv Ya Blue!). e3 8) |

no evidence of more indies? surely you jest... the crowd i'm in gets bigger every day. i'm sick to death of the 2 parties, whose candidates have sold their souls just to attempt to tell us what we want to hear, and then never do it...
and even if people still insist on using the R or D designation, or they are polarized enough to still consider themselves a liberal or conservative, many more people are independent than they realize. but really, no evidence? look to the last presidential election for evidence. the closest in history... the indies could have swung it either way - even they were split. everyone else was one party or the other, but couldn't decide which mediocre guy to stick in there, so the friggin supreme court had to figure it out for us... sure, we're all conservatives when it comes to downsizing government, or getting excited over tax cuts. and we all get excited when we go to war and throw out some dictator. then we throw out the president who did it 4 years later, because he forgot about the economy. i'm just sick of both sides - conservatives who are always slamming liberals, and vice versa. both sides suck, and the answer (if you can even call it that) is somewhere in the middle. maybe Rush ain't the GOP posterboy, but you sure couldn't tell down here where i live... and Al may not be the liberal posterboy, but i know how that nut is aligned as well. i live for the day when someone misconstrues something i've said as being racial. i adopted my daughter from Guatemala, and my skin is as white as Casper the ghost... i've got more relatives with ties from Asia, South America and Africa than from Europe... if i said anything racial they would kill me before any of the minorities i live amongst. my best friends growing up were from the Phillipines, Korea, Cuba, and the projects... i like being in a group that doesn't really want to be a group... none of them represent me, my friends, or family! sorry for stepping on toes. so easy to do these days... i guess it makes clear what affiliations i DON'T belong to...

ANY comment can be misconstrued. Just ask my girlfriend... And I didn't specify that it had to be misconstrued as racist.

i think all comments are at least partially misconstrued. the likelihood increases as the group you are addressing grows in size.
so then it probably comes down to holding your tongue or biting it! but back to the original tack of things, i do actually feel a bit sorry for Rush, even if i think he's a goofball. then it brings me back to how these people end up with the following that they do. must be some amusement there or living vicariously, having someone to actually say things that will ultimately get them crucified... i guess it's living vicariously, but in a cruel sense. this is why i would love to see the Governator elected out on the West Coast. it would be enough to make me watch the evening news again. where do these people come from, that will bravely (or is that stupidly) rush out onto the battlefield naked, proclaiming that they can kill everyone? just the ramblings of a guy with the number of constituents equalling zero...

Hey, I'm glad he's gone, I can watch AND listen again.
The guy knew NOTHING about THE GAME PERIOD. He made Dennis (Miller) look like Amos Alonzo Stagg. Please let's just hope they get someone with some "football sense". And yeah, I think it would be great if Doug Williams who had one of the greatest games in Super Bowl History AND is available AND does
have "football sense" AND good diction got a shot at the job. ps; the letter I was drafting to Paul Tagliabue is going in the trash.

Stan, gotta disaggree with you buddy!
Rush knows ALOT about football, way more than the average fan, including me. He has always been a huge Pittsburgh Steeler fan and knows his stats for the most part.
That said, I think that he was wrong in his comments, to me, race has nothing to do with anything. I happen to think that McNabbs a fine quarterback, now Kordell Stewart, that's another matter If you are old enough to remember Howard Cosell, he used to say some pretty off the wall things, and now long was he with ABC Sports? A LONG time. The problem is, things have become waaayyy too P.C., and what Rush said, right or wrong, was totally non P.C. That's why he's being crucified today. Even old Mr. Cosell would probably have to tone it way down if he were still around. The world has become too dang touchy, IMHO. It was a dumb remark, let's move on to more important things, like guitars. |

I gotta agree with the initial post about hiring "controversial hosts and then when they do something that they are known for they get fired or "resign", thats why they were hired.
Rush is a master of turning quotes around, as it has now come back on him (for real though ? I doubt it), from what I know of him he has always been very careful, always well thought out (regardless if you agree or not), so since I haven't heard his name in a long time and didn't even know he was a football guy, sure the way he calculates he probally wanted off the show and the press to boot, but just my opinion. I actually think there is some truth to what he said, PC police and all be dangeded, he's fat, balding, and going deaf so he's 'protected' too these days. I just saw more news, he can blame it all on the oxycontin |
