Return to Sin City: Tribute - Gram Parsons

just curious if anyone has seen this yet.... ? i have it in my netflix queue.

here is the desc.

A true legend of country-rock is immortalized in this tribute to Gram Parsons. Recorded at the Santa Barbara Bowl on July 9, 2004, and organized by Gram's daughter Polly Parsons, the concert showcases Gram's work with The Flying Burrito Bros and The Byrds as well as his solo efforts. Highlights include performances by Steve Earle, The House of Blues Gospel Singers, Norah Jones, Keith Richards, Lucinda Williams and Dwight Yoakam.

Cheers, Tim

I am a big gram parson's fan and I bought that DVD once it came out. As far as video quality it is not the best, I don't think that they spent enough time mastering the sound. (at some spots the mouth moves and the sound doesn't match up.) But as a fan I love it anyway.

It own it. It's great! The Sin City All Stars' guitar player are amazing, and Dwight, Jay Farrar, and Jim Lauderdale really understand the heart and soul of the music.. and Raul Malo singing Hot Burrito #1 will blow you away!

Now when are these guys going to do a Chris Hillman tribute?

It's really good for the most part, and it far exceded my expectations. "All-Star" jams are usually dissappointing but with that group it would be hard to go wrong.

I enjoyed it, we've been a bit spoiled recently (happily so) with Gram DVDs. I'd like to see a decent Flying burritos one come out too.

I really enjoyed it - I think it was on INHD some months back. I recorded it on the DVR and watched it about 5 times.

I also have a Parsons tribute CD (not related to this concert) called "Return of the Grievous Angel" which is top notch.

This was organized and produced by Emmylou Harris. There was a Studio 54 broadcast of a concert with most the participants doing the songs from the album. I have a vhs tape of it somewhere, but I don't think it has been released commercially. Both the album and the Studio 54 concert are tremendous. Of course anything with Emmylou, Steved Earle, Chris Hillman and Buddy Miller is bound to be good.

One of my favourite songs in the whole wide world is a duet of Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris singing the Big O's "Love Hurts".

cradlehall, I agree with you about "Love Hurts". The wife and I have been playing and singing that one a bit lately at home - we almost have the harmonies down now. (But we still don't sound like Gram & Emmylou!) That version is right up there with the Everly Brothers original in my opinion as far as great harmonies go. I also like the Nazareth version - just a great song.
