Chuck Prophet in Solano Beach 03/30/2007

I was in SoCal for business last Friday. We decided to stay the weekend with some friends when we found out Chuck Prophet was opening for Mofro at The Belly Up Tavern. I got to talk briefly with Chuck and man, how nice it is when you find out one of your heroes is a good guy to boot. This guy has been so good for so long and Friday night he put on a Hot S#%t Telecaster clinic for us. All the while singing those cool songs and fronting the band. A working class Rock Star if there ever was one.

Chuck is one of the great underappreciated artists of our time. The guy writes great tunes. No Other Love is a great record.
Also, notice that he's playing a Squire Telecaster.
Just wanted to point that out.

It's that same '80s Squier Tele that he's had forever. He's added a Keith Tuner for the low E string and said the pickups have been upgraded but Chuck didn't fess up as to the particulars there. He was plugged into a miked Princeton Reverb and an unmiked Deluxe Reverb both Blackface.

He likes that Durham Sex drive but has left the wah at home the last couple times I've seen him, which is a shame as he's one of the best wah players ever.

Thanks for the pics - Chuck is one of my all-time favorit guitar players, saw him playing here in Vienna on the Green On Red reunion tour last summer (he was also using the 80s MIJ Squier Tele, and the Durham SexDrive, but plugged into an AC30).

The one and only time I saw him was opening for Lucinda Williams in Kansas City. He flat smoked the joint. We were sitting right behind the board, and spent a few minutes chatting with him during Lucinda's set. Nice guy, and super talented.
