1983 Ibanex Roadstar II

One of my buddies has a 1983 Ibanez Roadstar II guitar. I think its pretty cool in its own way, and he never plays it anymore, so I might just make him an offer. I kinda want something to tinker around with and I'm pretty broke. Does anyone have any experience with these or know how much they're worth? Its pretty beat up but still in good playing shape.

I bought a 81 ibanez blazer(model similar to roadstar) recently and it's a great guitar. Got it for 160.00 with ohsc. Natural finish with a strat setup. Neck is pretty thin

The Blazers and early Roadstars were nice. I used to sell them. I had a couple of the Blazer Strat style guitars that Adrian Belew endorsed. I also had a couple Roadstars.

What pickup configuration does this Roadstar have? Is it funky? Some of them were very cool.

The bass player in a band I was in around 1980 had one of those Ibanez Roadster 6-string guitars. He really liked the things.

It's one of those guitars that I probably really should have liked, because it played well, and it had a good sound. I didn't personally care for it's vibe though.

I doubt that there's much market value for them.

Ibanez Roadstars are THE vintage bargain, with prices of their Lawsuit models rising, people overlook the fact that their eighties made guitars are every bit the high quality that their Lawsuit models are.

PLUS they are a very good alternative to Fender Japan solids which are also rising in value and they come from the SAME factory.

Awesome guitars. I have an 83 RS1010 SL (Steve Lukather) RoadStar II archtop and an 83 RoadStar II 335 Model (Strat). Both are good ole balls to the wall rockers. One of the most popular guitars Ibanez ever made. Very well made with great tone. They're one of the few guitars that can be picked up at a decent price, there are many out there still in great shape and haven't been affected by the Vintage Guitar craze...yet! Blue book has them anywhere from $200-$700 depending on what model, as many models were produced. The E-bay is uaually saturated with them so that can give you a barometer as to their value and which model you have. Once again...great guitars.

I have an early 80's Blaser BL500 (the Roadstar's older brother), strat shaped, ash-maple, 3 pickups, one phase and one tap switch. I bougth it in Germany in '85, used, and up until 2005 it was my sole electric. It served me well, took it to Australia and back twice, gigged with it for years.
I never owned but played a few Roadstars and most of them were better and more refined instruments than mine.
I don't think you can go wrong, especially if you want to tinker with it.

This one is a single-coil in the neck and a humbucker in the bridge. I'm gonna borrow it from him tonight and play it a little bit. I'll try to take some pictures too.

I had a Roadstar II and loved it. Two humbuckers with a vintage-strat-style vibrato. Really a sweet guitar. I found it in a pawnshop for $150 or so, about eight years ago...

Cheers, Tim
