The topic is "worst guitar solo." It's not "solos I don't like."

That said, Fred Durst's guitar solo is probably the worst ever. God almighty, that was awful. I think it might've been worse than Henry Kaiser's solo with Dumble backing him.

I seem to be enjoying all the "bad" solos, esp. I Love Rock and Roll. What does that say about me?

Thanks Midlifecrisis that was the funiest thing I've seen in days. Are you sure that is supposed to be a guitar solo though and not water witching?

Looks to me like he's water witching just using the guitar as a divining rod.

[quote=Just-Jim;1199398]That Paul Stanley video is just incredible. I almost thought this was a joke or something from Saturday Night Live.

I had watch it 4 times to convince myself it wasn't one of those spoof "shredder" videos that guy "st sanders" posts on YouTube. But based on what his fingers are doing on the frets, yep, it's gotta be real. Shameful.

Would definitely have to be something from the grateful dead when they were either searching for the x-factor, or not finding it. They have had moments that folks I know that have never heard them before have exclaimed to me" do those guys even know how to play their instruments? To which I replied something like; you just gotta hold on a bit here, or yes but it just didnt sound like it on that clip.

I have made more excuses for that bands terrible sounding music on more occaisions than a beeGees Disco era fan. Always provided a bit of frstration for me back in the days of my deadheadedness. Some folks just couldnt get it ya know? The only record I think they ever made that is mistake free from front to back is "American Beauty" and maybe "Workingman's Dead".

Whats funny is now the only dead I like is there country covers and I don't even listen to country music much. But I love their "Race is On", Mama Tried and pretty much all their country twinged stuff where Bob Weir Sings. Never could really dig Jerry's nasally vocals except on a few tunes. That said, I was definitley a deadhead for about 10 years, mostly for the live shows because the atmosphere was even better than the music.

Actually Neil Innes is playing like that on purpose. You have to be good to play THAT BAD.

Niel Young -Rocking in the Free World--live with Pearl Jam.

His constant warbling, single-note bends give me a headache. Tasteless crap.

Whoa... now you are treading in dangerous waters. Understandably when the acid was bad, or when they let Donna sing, there were bound to be rough nights... but even on Jerry's last legs, some of his solos could chill you to the bone. He would be dead a year later.

Steve Miller on "Abracadabra" or whatever the hell that song was called. I had the unfortunate displeasure of hearing that song at work last night.

The solo on Pat Benatar's "Shadows Of The Night" just makes me want to either hurl or laugh; depending on what mood I'm in. It sounds almost as though they recorded it and said, "hey, we need a guitar solo." Oh,BTW, the video is just as stupid as the guitar solo.

I can't believe no one's mentioned the solo from "It Ain't Over Till It's Over" by Lenny Kravitz yet. Aside from the fact that the song is a complete ripoff of "That's The Way of the World" by Earth Wind and Fire, the solo is so bad that the first time I ever heard it, I was astounded that it actually was committed to record and put out for public consumption. And I know Kravitz can play so much better!

Remind me never to play in front of you guys...

I can honestly say I can't think of a solo I've ever heard recorded for public consumption that didn't have merit in one way or another...

What is the rating scale we're using??

Technical proficiency? Feel? Musical Relevance? or simply personal opinion?

Only been on this forum a few days...sure hope there aren't a lot more threads like this...it could get old quick...

For me it's 'The Guitar Man' by Bread...great song...great singer..nice acoustic...BUT the electric part/playing is so lame, how could they let it be put out like that, even the Carpenters told their guitarplayer Tony to burn it up on their fuzz classic 'Goodbye to Love' and Tony did.

'The Guitar Man' should've have produced a better guitar sounding finished product. On 'Mother Freedom' they found a nice electric tone..........

Sympathy for the Devil. Man, that solo is just plain bad. Out of time and phrasing challenged.

That would likely be Steve Jones....

Arguably one of the MOST influential players of the 20th century..

He's played with Thin Lizzy, Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, Andy Taylor and others....

Oh, yeah...he played in this silly little punk rock band called the Sex Pistols, too...

I read an article/review about Ray Davies recently. He said that his brother Dave stuck a knitting needle in the speaker to get the tone. Of course Dave contradictesd him and said he sliced it with a razor blade. He also said that his amp kept making the same sound and he wanted it do something different. I guess he succeeded. Ray and Dave still have a love HATE HATE HATE relationship. Brothers....
