Hold on here a second;
isn't there an actual interview with Dom The Deceased in which he openly claims that he had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT FIRST RECORD. If that interview does in fact EXIST - it's blows your accusation to smithereens.
Also - this "spin" reeks of "Music Industry Insider". You People probably OWE this Kid a mountain of money and are terrified of the litigation consequences if he gets representation. If I was an exec on board and I sent all the royalties to Dom The Deceased OR the "known" original members all the while knowing that "the creative force" was being "cut out" I'd be looking for real estate in Costa Rica. And if I was a member of the ORIGINAL GROUP and KNEW that I've been ripping this kid off for the last 40 years for HIS royalties I'd get a Lawyer. FAST. IF - this is the way it went down - other people have been spending that family's deserved royalties for decades. And yes, now it does feel like a very BAD movie. Why should I be surprised? Why should any of us be surprised? I saw the EXACT same thing happen to "The Primitives" who were from Lawrence Massachusetts 40 years ago. "too many teardrops for one heart to be cryin'" Hey who wrote "96 Tears"? Really? What's done in the darkness shall come to The Light. Hunter Thompson had it down in regards to "The Industry".

As the one who revealed this story, I feel I should say a few words after what's been said since I last posted.
I know John S to be a very nice person, and we found out we had a lot in common musically (and otherwise). He didn't mention his musical background at first though, and it was only on a direct question from me that he told me of his time in Mandala. I had absolutely no reason NOT to believe him (I still like to believe him) and the Canadian journalist Nick W has indeed confirmed the story. So what was I to do ? I really wanted to do my friend a favor, and let him get some deserved recognition. Now I don't know what to say. If the interview with Dom The Deceased actually exists, no one will be more happy than I ! If on the other hand it doesn't exist, you must believe me when I say I never suspected foul play, and I wrote what I did with the best of intentions. |

Telemarkman: No reflection on you. You simply presented what appeared to be an interesting story. There must be a zillion quirky stories in the music biz. How were you to know that this wasn't one of them?
Fjohn: Thanks for setting your story straight. I sincerely hope you find tranquility of mind. As we said back in the day, "Peace". |

Maybe, fjohn...
like the old cliche says, "the truth shall set you free."
It's good thing you owned up to the facts...better late than never. When I was a kid and tried (often) to lie my way out of trouble, my mother would tell me, "you tell one lie, then you have to tell another lie, and another, and after a while you just don't know what's even true anymore." She would also say "Always tell the truth...that way you won't have to remember what you said." if you have a lemon, make lemonade. maybe by coming clean, you can be relieved of the burden of this lie you've been carrying around for so long. Perhaps you should not be so hard on yourself. It was not right what you did, but you certainly are not the first person to do something like this. We had a poster here a few years ago that appropriated another musician's Tele playing and tried to pass it off as his own playing. He came clean, apologized and many people on the board were more than willing to forgive him for his actions, and I think this board is representative of the good, fair-minded side of people. I might add there are many people on this planet who have done far worse things than you. I believe we can all find redemption when we admit we are/were wrong and resolve to do right from then on. So I hope the truth WILL set you free. |

Let he who is without sin...
Hey John - it's out in the open now, it'll be a burden off
Your shoulders and in the end You absolutely did the right thing. I'm 110% certain that Your Family loves You more than You'll ever know. I bear no animosity whatsoever. Reminds me of when I told them girls in Vermont that it was me who did all the close-up work in "Boogie Nights"...yeah. My mistake it was "Fievel Goes West".

John and Telemarkman,
You took us all on a wild ride but it appears not to have been malicious. I think most people, under the circumstances, will be forgiving. Nickw, What have you got to say for yourself? |
