Estaban is possibly the greatest guitarest in the western world. I read somewhere where he tought Eric Clapton,Jimmy Page , Jeff Beck, Chet Atkins and Joe Satriani all how to play guitar . He might have actually tutored Les Paul and wes Montgomery .

They are junk and overpriced at any price.

Notice that he NEVER plays one in the ad... he always plays a Martin or high end classical.

If Segovia were alive today he would no doubt "EL Kabong" Esteban with every one of these.

Wirst pieces of crap known to man... which is why they're on the ad channel. They actually have a rule that nothing of quality and/or value can be advertised on it

Only ever saw one. Made of plywood and the "Roswood" fingerboard was actually painted on. At $69 too expensive for firewood.

Here's an intersting article about him from 2000. Say what you want about the artist, but he's got the business end figured out.

http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/issue...s/feature.html

And, his "Guitars" if you call them that, are utter crap.

Estaban guitars are made of luan plywood? That's funny. I've had most of a sheet of luan plywood sitting in the basement for a couple years so it doesn't soak up moisture out in the garage. I've been thinking of using it for a Dano knockoff.

Esteban at Red Rock, Ooooooooooh!

You gotta love a guy who can do info-mercials, claiming his product is far supperior to Fender and the rest of the world at less than $200.00. I also like how he's so passionate about it, portraying him self as the second coming of Christ, wanting to share music with the world! Every beginning player has a full band behind them at Red Rocks to show off the great sounds of the instrument! If one of his guitars or amp's were on fire, i would waste my pee to put it out! Any cheap entry level Fender, Epiphone, Ibanez, Washburn etc... will play and sound better.

This kid my son plays with has one. I worked on it and got it playing pretty good, then two months later he brought it back, and I have no clue how any guitar go out of whack so bad so quick.. well actually I guess I do know.

If you want a great cheap acoustic, then let me relate this story to you...

I was home with a sick kid one Saturday, and my wife comes home and says "I have something for you". She brings in this dirty, full of cob webs acoustic guitar that is missing two strings and bridge pins. It seems someone was moving and put it in a box on their driveway with a sign that said "FREE", so she took it.

I cleaned it up, cleaned out the inside, put on a set of rosewood bridge pins that I had laying around since 1981. Re-cut the nut because it was basically a pre-shaped nut without the slots actually cut in it. Put on a set new strings.

Well, to make a long story short, it ended up being a great guitar. In fact, it plays and sound so good, I sold my good Yamaha acoustic and bought my wife one of those Retro Phat bicycles with the money.

The best thing is these only run $60.00 new. The brand is Maxam, and the model is "HHGUITAR".

I was in a local specialty shop yesterday that only sells Martin and Taylor. I played 2 $3000.00 Martins, and this cheap thing had much better action. Of course, I'm sure with a setup, the Martins would be much better, but how can you loose for $60.00?

I just read the Phoenix article.

The guy's a first class self-marketer, who's somehow managed to build his brand, and it would seem, singlehandedly.

Like all good marketeers, he's got people talking about his brand...

Let's not be too quick to judge ....

It is made of a material that MAY have once been part of a REAL tree.

buddy of mine bought one last year; asked me to fit a new nut for it so i put a graphtec gibson type nut on it (worth more than the guitar is...!!!!)....after much swearing and tinkering finally got it playable (somewhat) but, tonewise....what was the point..??...oh yeah...the fingerboard "finish" blackened the ends of my fingers really quick and was a "b" to get off....why didn't it stick to the fingerboard like that.....my opinion only....junk...

I've seen a couple and they were all fire fodder in my opinion. My next door neighbor bought one for his son. Wish he'd asked me before he did.

Luan is an indonesian mohogany, not that that excuses the guitar!

The painted fretboard is the biggest turn off for moi!

I'm sure it was fine Brazilian paint, though.

It drives me nuts that the guy has decided to go by the name "Esteban" but doesn't even know how to pronounce it.

I'd just like to see the instructional DVD's! Those have to be packed with all kind of quality instruction...

Step 1. Close any curtains that could allow your friends to see you.
Step 2. Insert DVD
Step 3. View intro of Esteban playing a different guitar with percussion, strings, and brass drowning him out.
Step 4. Tune guitar & get your hopes up!
Step 5. Hear the buzzing strings as you attempt first lesson (probably "House of the rising sun" like on the HSN)
Step 6. Reality sets in...

I played a used Esteban in a store. The black dye on the fretboard was wearing off, the rossete was a sticker, the action was horrible. I would honestly put the Esataban at 1/3 the quality of the $99 guitars that they sell at Walmart during the holidays.

I get really upset becasue really nice moms and dads and grandparents are buying those things for kids with the best intentions in the world. They have no clue about the $200 Yamahas or Art & Lutherie or used Seagulls that exist. Nice people watch an infomercial and buy crap. I hope that the kids get a second guitar or a chance at learning music after dad finds out the he dropped $150 on a pig in a poke.

It's as bad as the people who market "money making kits" to people who don't know better.

If Esteban is so very skilled, he should record and tour. Stop selling crap.

Another thing, he took two lessons from Segovia who called him Esteban (Spanish for Steve which is his real name). The whole PR thing about Steve being Sogovia's greatest life student and Segovia gave him the name Esteban out of admiration...blah blah blah blah. It's a real stretch.

I met David Crosby once but I don't tell the world that I'm his protege.

I think Steve's a crook.
