durango jon-boy, I know you prefer Marc and I prefer Rich. Since we have established that, I really think they had something special together. For me, being 43, and growing up with the Mick Taylor-era Rolling Stones, I will say that Robinson and Ford have come closer to that kind of chemistry than any other guitar team. Of course there are other amazing guitar pairings, but the mixture of open G, slide, vintage tones, cool effects and attitude really put them in that Richards/Taylor realm for me and a lot of others. Jeff Cease was OK, but he was kinda stunted as a player. His playing seemed like OK '80s Rock or something to me. Marc Ford took The Black Crowes to another level, just as Mick Taylor took the Rolling Stones to another level after the demise and death of cofounder/multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones. Marc is working really hard at remaining sober these days, as is Eddie Harsch. The Crowes are known for their partying, and I think it's commendable that Marc and Ed realize that their priority is their well-being over anything else. I know something about that, as I quit drinking, etc. on 5/31/91 since it was having a severely negative impact on my life. I don't preach to people, but I cannot be in situations were people are abusing themselves with substances, either. OK, enough of that. I really look forward to hearing more Marc Ford and more Black Crowes in the future. Hopefully both at once again, as well.

I'll agree that they had somthing special together. The Lost Crowes and Freak and Roll into the fog is some of the best music I've ever heard. No joke.
To me, it just seems that the Crowes without Ford just don't sound right. I think that we both will agree that Amorica is a better album than, say...Lions. I just hope that Ed and Marc will someday re-join and hopfully, this time it will stick. |

I gotta agree on Durango's comment that the Black Crowes and Marc Ford belong together.
I like what I've heard from Burning Tree and Blue Floyd, and the Crowes stuff without Marc is good...but I don't think either of them have come close to the output of what they've done together.
