The Beverly Hillbillies!!

I unearthed a DVD of 8 early Beverly Hillbillies episodes...I forgot I bought it awhile back. I still find that show hysterically funny.

My question, though...everybody knows Flatt & Scruggs did the theme song, of course. Did they play any of the other incidental music on the show? Or was it maybe Howard Roberts or Tommy Tedesco?

Because sometimes it sounds an awful lot like someone twanging away on a Telecaster.

I'm sure it was the studio cats.

I think Howard Roberts did a lot of those.

Pretty impressive. Flatt & Scruggs opens the show, and Howard Roberts finishes it?

My brother gave me a Beverly Hillbillies double DVD. Good stuff. In the earlier shows, they were full of great expresions, like "lower than a snake in a wagon rut!".

Playing the laid-back version of the theme song is pretty good if there's a break in the action onstage.

i've wanted to know how to play "ellie may's theme" forever - you, know, the purdy chordal passage that would play whenever the camera cuts down to ellie may and her critters at the ce-ment pond.

Now I'm going to have to pull out the DVD to remind me!

I do remember "Uncle Lester and Uncle Earl" making at least one appearance.

Yep, Lester and Earl did appear, as did "Cousin Roy" Clark.

My favorite episode was Jethro pursuing a movie career under the stage name "Beef Jerky".

Is it the same thing that would play whenever Ellie would come down the stairs in an evening gown? I halfway figured out a way to play that years and years ago, then forgot it again.

HR taught Scruggs how to play the theme...on a guitar tuned like a banjo. He also played all on of the cues and jazzy stuff.

Listen up...The church I used to attend (a very large, opulent variety) had Elley Mae (Donna Douglas?) as a guest one Sunday, and I got to talk to her!!!!! This was around 1985, but she still looked great.

No doubt, the Beverly Hillbillys was an all time classic. Loved Jethro's 'cyferin'.. LOL

The one episode I watched yesterday, they were all going to the bank to help out, because Miss Jane had a bad case of "Sick Benefits". Uncle Jed was going to be the bank president while Mr. Drisedale gave a speach (so Jethro gave him a copy of Gettysburg Address to read) Elley Mae was going to be the secretary, And Jethro was gonna help count the money. Jethro had a system for multiplying 12x12, but he needed Elley Mae to hold up two fingers, while he held up ten. That's 12! 12 & 12 is 24.... Jethro was the one with all the schoolin'.

Granny had a medicine that wouldn't cure rumatiz, but it'd make having it a lot more fun.

Great show. It's right up there with Green Acres.

Pete

She's looney tunes, as is Max Baer Jr., to a lesser degree.

Lester and Earl appeared in an episode where they were competing for the heart of Aunt Pearl. They sang a very funny song called "Pearl, Pearl, Pearl," notable for being (I've heard) the only time that Scruggs ever sang lead on record.

You can get the song from iTunes. Definitely worth $.99!

But nobody's as crazy as Al Lewis, who's even crazier than Grampa Munster.

I mean that in a good way.
