Bill Bailey and the Takeoff
In 1966, my neighbor had a family friend named Bill Bailey visit from New Jersey. He brought a Mustang and Princeton and showed me how to do what he called a "takeoff:" a guitar solo based on fingerboard boxes. It was a revelation. Later, I was jamming with some kids from school and asked if I could do a takeoff. They went, "Takeoff? What's a takeoff?" Chastised, I never mentioned the word again in my musical career.
Until now. I wonder if other TDPRIers who were in NJ in 1966 used the term. I have a lot riding on this, so search those memory banks.
