Love that site. Great tabs. Great gear info. Lots of work went into that one.

In my opinion, thewho.net is the best rock band site on the Internet, arguably matched only by The Band's website. (Both sites are at the top of my bookmark list.)
Ken, you are spot-on: The research that has gone into that website-- and still goes into it--along with the manner in which the information is organized is unbelievable. Only the most dedicated and intelligent fans could do that. All of the remarkably comprehensive information on The Who's guitars, basses, effects, amplification, drums, etc. aside, I like reading about Pete's keyboards and synthesizers. This is the place that definitively tells how Pete achieved the sequencer-like keyboard parts in "Baba O'Riley," "Won't Get Fooled Again," "Who Are You," "The Relay," along with other bits of interesting information, like the jaw harp sound in "Join Together." (Surprisingly, that's not a real jaw harp; it's Pete on one of his synthesizers.) Good stuff. Joel |

+1 on who.net
In a related note, I hear pre-production copies of the new Who film by Murray Lerner are circulating. Here's what the guy from another board wrote: "Speaking of rare Who dvds, I've recently obtained a rough cut copy of the yet to be released "Who's Still Who" movie documentary by Murray Lerner. There's some good never before seen clips on there. Being a rather large Who bootleg collector myself in the first place, some of the clips I'd never seen before included: Scene Club 1964 with real audio, Glad Rag Ball 1966, Leeds '70, Metropolitan Opera House '70, King's Hall - Belle Vue in Manchester '73, and Kilburn '77, plus tons of old interviews I'd never seen either. To an average fan, there would be a lot of other rare clips as well. The whole disc is a little over two hours, but it is a work in progress type deal - at certain instances it will say something like "insert picture of Pete w/family here" etc. and at the end where the credits would be rolling, it just says "credits here" while a film montage of My Generation is playing. They're still working on the movie - no telling what the finished product will be like. I'm looking more forward to the bonus discs!" |
