Leo sold Fender to CBS. I wonder what would have happened if he hadn't had all the sinus problems?

Okay Bluetele54... rather than pop off here and say duh, I decided to expand my thinking to questions I have like... how maybe the quality of the Fender line would have stayed consistent through today and all the older strats and teles might be much less collectible and worth half what they are today. Not saying they would here... just pondering possibilities... and sort of announcing an anniversary. I think there are other things that might have happened too... like maybe no G & L.

Music Man Started offically under that name in 1974-5 and G&L a few years later.

I hate say this, but Leo didn't sell by choice he was force into cause of the other business partners besides himself, George Fullerton. There were three others along with George and Leo those three sold out to CBS.

One of the People on the Peavey Amp forum who lives in Beaverton, Or. used to work for G&L and met Leo Fender and he ask Leo what happen.

I prefer to hypothetically imagine...

what if Leo didn't sell? And stubbornly continued to manufacture strats and teles with the same materials and consistency with very few changes as the years passed.
So basically, a 1965 tele is now the same as a 1985. Only now, the 1965 tele is judged by it's condition in much the same way everything else is today... scratches on the body - less value, fret wear - less value, faded color - less value, rusty bridge - less value. So in my hypothetical world, the 1965 tele in "poor" condition is only worth a couple hundred bucks.
And now in my hypothetical scenario, the guy on stage doesn't want to play the old faithful, beat up guitar, but a shiny new one.

Actually, the whole Fender history roughly parallels the Winchester firearm history... only the valuable Winchesters are pre 1963.

And I know... it's just pretend, but I'm in a weird mood tonight.

If Leo hadn't sold. Hmmm.......If he'd have gotten over the sinus problem anyway,kept the company,and lived to the age he actually lived to, Fender gear might have ended up having a lot of Music Man characteristics in the amps and Music Man/G&L features on the guitars ...How about an Albert Lee Telecaster? A tweed Super 210-65 amp?
