"Ishtar". Seriously, that film is underrated.
"Top Secret". From the "Airplane!" folks. Val Kilmer as Elvis as a spy in East Germany.
"Local Hero". Houston oil company executive sent to buy entire Scottish village on the cheap. Things don't go quite as planned. Mark Knopfler soundtrack.

Samoa

These are all on my favorites list:

Brazil (1985) Simply brilliant.
Broadcast News (1987) (7 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Actor [2], Best Actress, etc... )
Ladyhawke (1985) Fun mixture of fantasy and comedy/romance.
Lost in America (1985) A real sleeper, one of Albert Brooks' funniest films.
Rustlers' Rhapsody (1985) Another sleeper, but very, very funny.

Scary to think how many of my favorite "modern" flicks are now over 20 years old... yipes. ;-) CS

Oh man all these made me think of another.....

Anyone remember "Born In East LA"?

Thanks for the 'House' suggestions. I just added those as well. I am adding any of these I can find, but suprisingly they don't have a ton of them.

I know....

this threads been idle the last week or so...but I thought of a few more after reading someone posting "Johnny Dangerously". I'm ashamed I forgot this one, I absolutely loved it!!! The recently departed Peter Boyle had a small part in it. Michael Keaton was great. He did the reasonably clean, but incredibly funny "Mr. Mom", which really hits home after you become a parent, as well as "Night Shift" and "Gung Ho".....three great 80's movies with Keaton as the star...

Let's not forget the classics: Weekend at Bernie's, Private Resort, and Mannequin.

Wow, we got this far in the thread without:

"The Three Amigos!" ('86) and "Spies Like Us" ('85)?

Anything produced by Mel Brooks or starring Leslie Neilson are always good for some laughs, ala Blazing Saddles(70's) or Naked Gun flicks.
The Blues Brothers is an American classic.

You guys know your stuff!

I'll just re-state the ones I think really are a must:
early Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin (Trading Places, Jerk, Roxanne, "Trains, planes, Automobiles", Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, )
Monthy Python and off-shoots (Meaning of Life, Live at the Hollywood Bowl, A Fish Called Wanda, Brazil etc. )
Mel Brooks flicks
Zucker,Zucker & Abrahams flicks (Airplane I & II, Top secret, Hot Shots, Naked Gun, etc)
Woody Allen flicks
Tootsie
When Harry Met Sally

and... getting cheesier here...
Police academy,
any movies with Dudley Moore, Chevy Chase (National lampoon, Fletch), anything with John Candy or Michael J Fox (Back to future) or Bill Murray (Ghostbusters), ... Ferris Bueller's Day Off, early Tom Hanks (Bachelor party, money pit, big), Porky's...

off beat "dark humour" stuff: Eating Raoul, After hours (Scorcese), HairSpray (Waters), Throw Momma From the Train (Danny Devito), Raising Arizona (Coen)...

for music kinda stuff: Blues Brothers and Spinal Tap.

I finally noticed a mention of Ruthless People. That was one of my favs.
How about Wise Guys with Joe Piscapo & Danny Davito, featuring the one & only Captain Lou Albano as Frank the Fixer.
And I know of a movie sooooo cheesy, you'd probably never find it.
It's called The Gold Raiders, filmed in Thailand on a budget of about $45.00, this classic features a scene where the general gets drunk & decides to rape the daughter of the chief of the village. Shortly after he removes his wooden leg in preparation for the act, the dog wanders into the hut & makes off with it. No, really, I swear on my kids!
Oh yeah... Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
