Buddy Holly strat?

There have been a few topics and posts lately about players worthy of having a signature guitar.
So I suddenly wondered why there hasn't been a Buddy Holly tribute/commemorative strat of some sort. He was one of the first strat heroes, wasn't he?

I don't know if I'd call myself the #1

Buddy Holly fan on the planet.... maybe #2 next to Bill Griggs but I can very easily answer your question for you. Buddy Holly was one of the very first people Fender wanted to make a signature guitar of (after Jimi Hendrix) back in the 80's. Why didn't they? Maria Elaina Holly, Buddy's widow wanted too much money. And that is still why today, 2006, there isn't a Buddy Holly Sig/Tribute Stratocaster.

For more Buddy info, I can't recommend enough the BuddyHollyOnline.com web page. There's a great chat board on there to where you can find a lot of information. They also have a page dedicated to Buddy's Strat when Fender cleaned it up. Some of the info on the gear page isn't correct but over all its a great page.

Yeah there was one instrument done for Buddy Holly and that was his Gibson J45. There were only 250 made in 1995 on the price the vintage guitar has for them is between $1,500.00 to $1,700.00

Not quite Buddy Holly's Strat...

..but mine signed by Tommy Allsup when he was touring with Kevin Montgomery.

I wanted to change the tuners to Kluson style but I couldn't remove the pins and feared damaging the signature. However, Tommy did take a liking to it!

Here it is in profile:

I really enjoyed assembling this one and fancy tackling a 54 Strat a la Buddy Holly.

Any sunburst Classic '50s Strat could be thought of as a "Buddy Holly" Strat. Cheaper than a "Signature" model too.

Ha - he played a Gold Top first !

Nah - the classic set-up is the 3-color sunburst Strats he played - 3 color w/ the maple neck is rare rare rare.

I'm glad he doesn't and hopefully he won't - it cheapens him up. Buddy's a rock god.

Clapton ? Shows how many meat-and-potato knuckleheads there are out there that they have sold as many Clapton Strats/Martins as they have.
