The one that amazes me . . .
I am constantly floored by the Tele tones that the Hellecasters or Johnny Hiland get when they play "Orange Blossom Special". In my mind, that's some awesome Tele sounds - all sorts of different tones.

That is almost impossible to answer. I won't even try (but it is a good question, and other people will certainly give you better answers!).
To me, there are so many ultimate Telecaster tones, that I don't even know where to start. The Telecaster is an instrument with so many personalities, so many voices. I'm no help here... You'll have to wait for the other guys and gals to chime in. / Tony |

Loggins & Messina's "Vahavela" from their live release "On Stage" ......
Jimmy Messina's Tele tone touch & technique are great ! Sure, there are mo' betta chickenpickers, and mo' fasta bluze wailers etc, but that tune is tasty Tele all the way....... |

The Telecaster comes in so many versions and they all sound a little different from each other. Even in its most original form, it's one of the most versatile electric guitars ever. So many players, so many styles .....
As written above: It's a good question, but I'm unable to answer it. |

I think just about anything by Roy Buchannan. for a man who popularised many tele techniques, try something like 'The Messia will Come Again'. Danny Gattons a good choice to.

The tune that comes to my mind first, when I think Telecaster sound, feel, vibe, and mojo is Brent Mason's tune "Hot Wired" off the album of the same name... Twang, full clean tone, treble bite, and fast accurate pickin', that tune's got it all... I know the album's hard to get ahold of, but if you can find a copy, or a download, it's a sure-fire winner...

The song that just screams Tele tone to me is:
Mike Bloomfield - Various takes of "It Takes Alot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry" on Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited.

There's been so many different uses of the Tele over the years. I'm not up on much other than country, so that's all I can really answer with.
To me, the song(s) that epitomizes the Telecaster in country music would have to be Chattahoochie (for a song), and Hot Wired by Brent Mason (as an instrumental). Its a very opinionated question to ask. Everybody associates a different song/tone/riff with the Telecaster. For me I guess it isn't really any song imparticular, simply anything played by Brent Mason is pretty characteristic of a Tele. Also, country would be the most characterstic sound of a Tele (as it would seem to me). You can make a Tele sound like a Strat, but you can't make a Strat sound like a Tele. Cheers, Joel |

Nashville Skyline Rag---Clarence White
Duke Levine also does an excellent version of this tune.
