Autotuners - not just for the studio
I read an article in the paper today about how autotuners are being increasingly used for live shows. Not only for vocals, but for instruments. What does everyone think?
For those who don't know, an autotuner gets programmed with the song key, then corrects notes that are off key to the nearest on key pitch. |

Live, yikes... I could really see using it on backing vocals done right. With the proper technique, backing vocals with autotuning would be seamless sitting in the mix and could only help. Main vocal- no, and instruments like guitar, no. It does work wonders on bass, though, when used correctly- ie very little effect and only simple autotuning... something like guitar though, I don't think should be autotuned. I just think that you would lose so much in regards to sound. Now trombone.... that's a different story. he he he Billy |
