Henry James Townsend 1909-2006

Sorry to hear that we lost Henry Townsend...
Quote:
We lost a great man among men Sunday, September 24th, at 9:25 PM near Grafton , WI . 96 year old blues legend Henry James "The Mule" Townsend died with his son Alonzo and his long time friends Scott Shuman and John May at his side.
We brought him in for a show I played in and helped promote in 2002 and I drove him to the studio the next day after the gig and had the chance to talk with him.

Sorry to hear this. Saw Henry a few times and always had a blast. Was he the last of the pre-War bluesmen?

RIP Henry, you will be missed.

Have you seen David "Honeyboy" Edwards? He is a great bluesman and a friend. Check out his schedule at Earwig Records.

Really sorry to hear that...

One of the last few prewar blues legends.

If you have a chance, go see Honeyboy Edwards and Robert Lockwood.

Here is the story from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel online:

He died on the road, in town waiting to play a gig at age 96!

R.I.P. Henry Townsend

It's so sad to see this older generation of players pass on. My dad grew up with that kind of music down in Arkansas.

Didn't Henry Townsend write the "The Fishin' Song"?
