...where have all the "Nighthawk"s gone???

...not the band, but the Gibson guitars that were Fender scale...I have, and prefer, the 2 pickup model(mine's in black)...they just seemed to have disappeared...I,for a time, used this guitar all the time, and it was pretty versitile...I like the Firebird-like neck pickup, full and split, the middle position is very Strat-like,and the bridge full is very powerful and midrangy, split, very Tele like...you just don't see many around, where'd they go???...does anyone care???

Local music shop had one for sale a couple of months back. Got to do a bit of a test drive and did like it. If I recall, it ended up going out in a trade for some kind of a LP.

musicians friend has blueshawks, and apparently has no shortage of supply, or word on them being discontinued, while nobody else has them. that has happened to a lot of underperforming gibsons recently, and for most them i've heard from reputable people, websites, etc, that they've become "musician's friend exclusives", and i suspect that's what's happened here.

...and yes,Robert Nighthawk WAS good!!!

..."Sweet Little Angel"...there's a wonderful early '70's collection on Chess that has a couple of his tunes, and that's where I heard him first...Earl Hooker claimed that Nighthawk was a strong influence...such a sweet slide sound...but,now,about the guitars...

Nah, the one the dealer here had was definitely a 2 pickup Nighthawk - only one I had ever laid my hands on. I came close to buying it.

...very different!!!...

...the "Nighthawk" has either a 2 or 3 pickup configuration with coil-splittable humbucking pickups...I prefer the 2 pickup version...the "Blueshawk",on the other hand, has 2 P-90 style pickups, and a veri-tone switch similar to an ES-345,355...plus a couple of "F" holes to give it a semi-hollow vibe...look at the above post that shows a '94 ad for the "Nighthawk"...because it has a Fender scale,it has a familiar feel, and I just love the neck pickup, which is a splittable "Firebird" style pickup...the "Nighthawk" is light and has a nice neck profile...check it!!!

I'd hate to have to find a replacement bridge pickup for the Nighthawk. I think thats the thing that scared me away from buying one in the first place. I have always wanted to try one.

I have a 1993 2-pu Nighthawk Special. 2 hums and minimal trim level, body binding but no neck binding. It does some great single-coil type sounds in addition to the usual creamy hum tones. The bridge pu is plenty hot. Neck is a mini-hum. Neck seems fatter than my modern Fender or G&Ls with a flatter radius. Discontinued in 1999, I think. Actually, it's quite a hot rod, especially if you can't afford a higher end Gibson. I don't use it as I prefer the Strats and Teles in my arsenal. I should take it down to a dealer and see if I can trade it off. The humbucker guys should like it.

Best,
sdmyers

sorry for the confusion. i thought you meant the entire "nighthawk" family of guitars, which is larger than the "nighthawk" itself, and includes the "blueshawk", and others, which is why you asked about the "nighthawks", rather than just the "nighthawk". my point was that one guitar in that family was still available, but only at muscian's friend (as far as i'm aware.)
