WHATA****?
Are you talking about the kid from Karate Kid?? Mr. Miyagi was the only great Blues player and we know it. I still remember when we were sitting on my front porch with a sake and he played his harmonica.. R.I.P

I remember reading a Steve Vai interview once where he talked about filming "Crossroads". Apparently, Ry Cooder played all those blues parts. Vai was warming up for the film scene with his normal pyrotechnics, and Cooder just sat down with a slide and blew him right off the stage, in Vai's view. |

Oh, and since I should contribute little-known blues players...
Joseph Spence - Folk rather than blues, but he will BEND. YOUR. MIND. Arguably the most original guitarist I've ever heard. You'll never think about "in tune" the same way again. Ali Faka Toure - Blues is African music. He'll take you right back to Africa. Hubert Sumlin - Just in case you haven't heard old Howlin' Wolf records. Pete Cosey - Not blues in any mainstream sense. Played with Miles Davis in the mid-1970s. His playing on the live Miles albums from that era (Agharta, Phaedra, Dark Magus) is breathtaking, psychedelic, experimental blues that will MAKE YOUR EARDRUMS BLEED. Johnny Dowd - A unique modern primitive player, perhaps more Americana than blues. |

Kirby Kelly. Saw him at a National Guitar Workshop Blues Summit faculty concert. He followed Ronnie Earl and Robben Ford, who had just played a really knockout, unrehearsed show. Together!
Kirby played & sang alone, on an amplified acoustic, some of the most explosive, gripping, hair-raising, chicken-skin-feeling blues I had ever heard. I remember looking onstage, and in the wings were all those other great players just watching him, grinning, and shaking their heads just like the rest of us out in the seats.

Mississippi Fred McDowell, R.L. Burnside are two that come to mind. Not totally unknown but underrated and real crusty foot stomping good stuff.

What was the name of that guy who released a CD called "Howlin' Mercy" again? He played a Dobro... thin white dude, long hair. Kickass guitar player and singer. Loved his albums. He passed away, unfortunately enough...
Edit: looked it up, it was John Campbell. I loved that track, "I ain't afraid of midnight"... man, great vibe in his albums. I need to go find the CD again...
