"Lonely Boy" is basically a self parody. It's meant to be funny with a slice of sad truth in it as well. Andrew is good at putting humour in his lyrics... goes along with the songwriting styles of Randy Newman or Warren Zevon. The man can write, sing, play the guitar and piano without a doubt.

Lets not go there with doing cover versions, because many of rocks finest are guilty of doing it. You just don't like her and that's that ( I respect that too), but some here do. So please no more salt in the wounds or I'll put a cd of "Silk Purse" in with "Long Long time" on repeat and take an OD of sleeping pills and leave the suicide note hand written out to you .

Keep on rockin' Skully, I like your attitude brother!!!!

freddie

BTW: I keep a bubblegum card of "Silk Purse" in my Gibson Everly Brothers guitar case.

Hmm... I've got a live video clip of him performing the song and he fails to project the humor.

I don't dislike her. I just don't find her to be a substantial, significant artist.

I'd be honored. I'll even frame the note. I promise.

And if he doesn't find her significant, then she must not be.

We all know what the real question is: What does Chris Robinson think?

It wouldn't matter. He would defer to you.

Sound decisions like that are what has made him a major force in the music industry.

How many times do I have to say it? I'm all about the LOVE.

And I actually like Andrew Gold. I'm the guy who's got the clip of him performing "Lonely Boy" saved on my hard drive.

Fun fact about Andrew Gold for that other running thread: He's the son of award-winning film composer Ernest Gold ("Exodus") and Marni Nixon, who provided the on-screen singing voices for Deborah Kerr ("The King and I"), Natalie Wood ("West Side Story") and Audrey Hepburn ("My Fair Lady").

Aw, Skully...c'mon man, I thought you were changing from this pattern you have of getting in the middle of it, then claiming the LOVE!

Must you refuse to arise from your slumber and partake of the olfactory pleasures of the freshly brewed Folger's? (now in freshness-sealed cannisters!!!)

Y'know I loves ya, bruthah!

I believe that was also the modus operandi of Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi and a few other notables throughout history -- like Linda's ex, Jerry Brown!

Best guess, when those voting hit that period where all they have to choose from is the glam and hair bands (Poison, Motley Crue, and so on) they will go back into the "archives" and finally admit Link Wray, Nick Lowe, Warren Zevon and others.

But then again, as a few have said, who really cares. Does rock & roll really need an HOF to acknowledge the greats. Their continued influence seems to be a far more genuine gesture of respect.

Hey Skully, I might have an extra ticket to a house concert andrew is playing in november if you're interested... 60 people in a beautiful home and Andrew... these concerts are pretty cool, you never know who will show up and the concert is not formal at all and usually filled with pretty good stories and rare, rare moments.... my bro may be in china, if he is... the ticket is yours...

The rock n roll hall of fame is a totaly, completely retarded idea.

Linda Ronstadt is a wonderful singer. She made some really great records, and played some great concerts and was part of music history and her voice influenced many, many, many singers today many of whom do not suck.

She has not requested to be in the Hall of Fame, She has not decried being passed over. She may not know it exists. An Jann Wenner is among the most duplicitous people on the planet and is not a good person nor someone that I would provide resusicitation were he to be in need. When music became solely a commodity we all lost something and that shrink wrapping of music into a hall of fame and all the stupid made up genres are irksome at best.

Linda Ronstadt has proven time and time again that she is a superior singer, she has great taste in songs and she can attract and maintain talented bands and professional relationships. She has always been a singer's singer and has maintained her sanity throughout a very long and very thoughtful career.

When the river is not on fire, Cleveland can be a nice place. And Upper Sandusky has a nice roller coaster.... and the Indians... oh yeah they SUCK this year... I'm glad that 'rock fans' enjoy flocking to it and looking at guitars that don't get played and the clothes of dead people. I will go there if I am passing through Cleveland and the 4way chili I had in Cincinnati is doing its work and I need to take "The Browns to the Super Bowl."

Boo this!

LINDA Ronstadt, what a singer! And how about Waddy and his taste and tone !And then you can add Andrew Gold or the influence of Karla Bonnof or the production of Peter Asher. These were Rock and Roll records as much as Elvis was in the 50s or Orbison in the early 60s.To say LR is not R&R is to overlook the evolution of R&R.

Sure. If it's nearby in SoCal and it doesn't break my bank.

Maudlin self-pity is a barrier to entry into the R&R HOF? What's going to happen when we get to the grunge years, then?

Maudlin self pity is okay if it's accompanied by heavily distorted electric guitars.

No Ventures or Shadows in there yet either.
Not a fan of the RRHOF here either.

You betcha.

The RRHOF is essentially a really expensive mix tape dubbed with idol-worshipping, lovesick, pubescent girly glee by Jann Wenner.

Or, perhaps, a more appropriate metaphor would be that the RRHOF is a seedy home sex video of Number One Rock Groupie Wenner's numerous fellatory cum (Again with the puns, you schvanz? Already that meshuggeneh Internet you should turn off and become a joke writer for television--nisht gefloygen, kuneh leml!) submissive bukkake encounters.

A simple autograph was never enough for Jann.
