It just occurred to me that a lot of us predated software that would show our age and had our accounts created for us in the rollover. I'm sure that's another reason why lots of folks aren't showing their age.

It also occurred to me that I'm never sure how many Rs and Cs go in "occurred."

I think what happend was in the older software there wasnt a place to put age. So when Paul switched over to this new software a few months ago people just didnt go inside their profile and edit to add the age.

I have no hesitation telling people my age. However I don't like putting my exact birthdate on forums or anywhere else this public. This forum give syou the option to display just your age, some don't.

I'm 48. I just kind of figured people would guess that I was in my 40's since I have talked about growing up in the 70's. Woodman makes a good point about your age having an effect on musical tastes but there is more to it. I work with a fellow that is 23 and he has his frame of reference musically, but he plays all sorts of music. He will play anything from 50 Cent to the Who and everything in between. It IS kind of funny when he talks about Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog as Old School. It's also funny when he plays something like The Who and I go, I remember that when it first came out. At least he can appreciate music that was made outside of his generation. Another guy I work with only likes the music he listened to growing up. He is 31. He's the only person I've ever met that proclaimed, The Beatles suck. He seems to take pleasure in running down the Stones and Bob Dylan too. I just let it go in one ear and out the other. I guess my point is: It's fine to love the music you listened to growing up, but don't limit yourself, keep your mind open to new music.

I'm 17, 18 in 39 days.
But what I lack in experience I make up for in stupidity.

Some people on the forum know how old I am, but I don't like to list it... because I know a lot about music, guitar electronics, not to mention playing guitar, and also winding guitar pickups- and if people saw how old I am some people wouldn't take me seriously..... thats just how it works sometimes.

I just don't think age really matters on a forum, if you fallow the rules, and if you know what your talking about and don't give false information or whatever, who cares how old you are? Just my opinion.

Judging from some of the recent threads, it seems you're far more likely to find younger people appreciating older players than the other way around.

Speaking of naive, I put my age in because I thought people would treat me with more respect once they found out how old I was.

I like to know a little about the folks I'm hanging with, so it's one more bit of info I like having. But I don't obsess about it!

After all, I'm 47 years old, yet think of myself as being about 17!

Cheers, Tim

Now that's true, regarding the beauty of recorded music, and how lucky we are to have it all, and be able to constanty discover and rediscover all the timeless great music that's out there..

But some music will forever be associated with moments in our lives, and in some way will always be the filter through which we embrace other music.

And if nothing else, it's just the soundtrack for our memories..I was 18 in 1967..that summer there was new music by the Doors, Big Brother, Moby Grape, the Dead, Country Joe, the Seeds, the Airplane, Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa all at once, but no matter who was making it, the music you listen to when you're 18 will always be pretty special..

Edit:::I keep going to the bottom of a page and then responding, only to find out there're more pages!...I'll catch on eventually

One year older than my teeth, and just as old as my gums. I'm 57. Don't really look it. Surely don't act it. For sure ain't ashamed of it. My 12-year-old daughter is starting to make me feel a bit old-fashioned, though...

I just never gave any thought to filling out the birthday thing. I guess that's what makes your age show up over there on the left, huh? Well, the older I get, the more I realize I don't know. And I guess I am getting pretty old.

Age matters only to the young.

i took Peter Pan very seriously, I don't ever want to grow up and have to buy those ugly shoes.

55.

Well Age is just a record of how many years you've lived, not a record of how you lived those years..... but sure.... I am 34 for some more days...

Well I didn't realize it was an option until now.

I do think that some influenes and expeniences in life are more or less meaningful, depending on age. Including, but not limited to, music.

I have a theory on this. This appreciation is projected by youths who generally are the youngest of large families. It's called "whipper snappus grande clanus phyciosis nervosus musicanus".

Simply put the older siblings musical choices were sonically imbedded in the child's left cerebral hemisphere at an early age. The tendancy to say nice things about their elders, regardless of sincerity, is generally the result of whoopings by the hands of older siblings for critical and sarcastic verbal interaction.

What a great attitude to have. Sometimes I get depressed because I wasn't there for so many of my favorites. But seeing the artists who are still left from the 60s and 70s and can still pull it off makes my life. Though, I'm going to try your way next time I play records!

I'm 31 next month, BTW. I don't see age as a big issue here. Sometimes I forget J-Man is as young as he is!
