The New York Mets...
I'd like to discuss this MLB team with any baseball fans and see what everybody thinks about them. Compare them to your own favorite team if you like. I want to stress that here in the Tri-state area we get to see almost every game on cable TV- they have thier own network called SNY that started this year.
NY Mets fans also have thier own radio station called WFAN which has 24 hour talk radio which is sports only call-in. A wierd contrast is that the NY Yankees do not have this- you'd think they would as they are the most well known team in the world in the biggest market. |

I'm kind of a passive baseball fan. I only get really excited when it starts getting toward playoff time. That said, as a NY'er, I'm a Yank fan, rather then Mets. Unlike most Yank fans though, I don't hate the Mets, but I really don't know much about 'em. I'd love to see another Subway World series someday. Last one was very exciting!

When I lived in NY ( Long Island ) the Mets had Casey Stengel (s?) as their Mgr and Ron Hunt was my favorite player. I think their record was 62 - 100.

My predictions....
....it just might be a subway series.
As much as I DETEST the New York Yankees, they WILL be in the world series, and in all likelihood, WILL win it. Detroit is a sham and will once and for all be exposed, though I WISH that wouldn't happen, I hate the thought of the Yankees once again going to and probably winning the Series. So who from the NL? Well, the Mets appear to be the cream of the class over there, so unless they do some sort of crash and burn in the playoffs, I'm thinking it's Subway Series all the way. GO METS!

Well as a Red Sox fan whose team has gone South, I'm rooting for the Twins!! I'd be happy to see the Twins or Tigers go all the way. As far as the Mets go, they are a good team that could go all the way if Pedro stays healthy. The Yanks have no chance. They are pretty bad, it's just the Red Sox were worse. The Yanks don't have the pitching.

Yeah, it's like 2 different teams. Don't want to make excuses, but when Jason Veritec went down, so did the pitching. Shows how important a good catcher is. We have alot of young talent, so things look good for the future. As long as the Yankees don't win, i'll be happy!!!!!!!!

The Yankees seem to be too shaky of a team to go all the way. There's way too much competition in the American League this year and it's going to be up in the air this fall. I think it's gonna be a case of whoever's hottest at the time.

Well that will be the case Chet. There is no real standout great team this year. Some very good ones. So your right, the team that gets hot at the right time will win. Could be the Mets

ShakeDancer: The Red Sox don't have thier own Cable TV network or radio station, do they? I think I've heard a talk radio station from Boston when I've been up there fishing but didn't really listen very much. Are thier games mostly telecast thru the Fox Sports network?

Chet, Yes they own the radio station WEEI ( it broadcasts on the Web) has all their games and is also the highest rated sports talk show in the country. They also own NESN which broadcast all their games in HD, and also has the Bruins

Great point. And I think teams like the Mets and Yankees are both in a little trouble with pitching. There are a lot of teams that are much hotter than both the Mets and Yankees right now so it could be interesting once the playoffs begin. I'm looking forward to going to the Astros/Phillies game tonight... both teams had amazing weekend performances and they're still fighting for the WC. |

It might be deceiving to make any assumptions by basing your opinion on how the teams are playing right now.
Some teams are "fighting for thier lives" right now and are giving it thier all to remain in the playoff hunt. Other teams like the Mets and Yankees are looking foward to the playoffs and just trying to remain healthy/uninjured till the playoffs get going.
