All the Stones songs are out of tune. Except the acoustic ones.

AT the last part of Dream On by Aerosmith Joe Perry bends up to a note and just doesnt reach the note its horribly out of tune.

Everything recorded with an upright. Let's say the intro in Stand By Me.

The first note on the bass line of "Stir It up"...the low E is flat.Drives me nuts everytime I hear it.
The Gretsch on "In My Life" by the Beatles, the guitar doing the riff.Especially the last chord.

Geez.... you all must have some good ears... remind me never to let you hear any of my recordings. Vocals or bends.....

I was going to say Springsteens entire "Nebraska" album. All the guitars a bit flat. Oh, and most of Tom Waits' vocals are off.

Personally I like that, I think it sounds more endearing and more "human" if the edges are a little ragged (think the 'Stones) and things are off here and there. If everything is too polished and perfect there's no soul.

Beatles - Tell Me What You See

When they sing the "tell me what you see" in the chorus, it's totally out of tune. Also the "oooo" with the same melody in the end of the song.

That's easy

That's an easy one.....in fact, I was just listening to it today and noticed it again.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps.....the original Beatles version.

I think that (1) the guitar is horribly out of tune to begin with then, (2) they drench it in way too much flange effect.

Before anyone flames me....I'm a huge Beatles fan, and a huge George Harrison and EC fan. George was probably my favorite Beatle. And that song has actually been a huge influence on me too. I just wish they had chosen to be a little less psychedelic with that particular song.

Hear ya! Funny that we both came up with a Beatles song - it shows how big an influence they are.

Have you ever seen the documentary on Tom Dowd? it is pretty cool when he takes the master tapes of Layla and starts remixing it and you can hear the iso of each track and you can hear how 'out' some parts are and yet they sound cool when the are put back together.... if you haven't seen it, it is well worth the couple of hours...

Every tune of the Band where Rick Danko plays his fretless Ampeg bass. I cringe everytime I hear "The weight" and I hear the beginning of the chorus and I hear that Danko just misses the note he's supposed to hit.

But it doesn't get more off-key than this...

Fuzzy hit the note on Dylan, and my favorite bizarro-world in his catalog is Highway 61 Revisited. i guess they were all so stoned they couldn't tune (especially when Dylan was on the Strat). i'd just gotten back from the Nam when i first heard it, and thought that while i was gone, they'd invented new microtunings i wasn't hip to. silly me, i was as far gone as the outa-tune players!

    Chuck Berry

Chuck Berry -he's so out of tune on Maybellene and some others, especially any of his live stuff, at times it is so bad that it's hard for me to listen to it.
The guitar on While My Guitar Gently weeps is off but the organ part in that song is much worse IMHO, they could have left that out completely!

    Howdy,

My man Keef is out of tune on the intro to "All Down the Line", and Brian Jones (I assume it was Brian on the 12 string) on "The Singer, not the Song". Neither of these are exactly radio biggies, though. The latter is actually a nifty little song that Mick wrote, but the 12 string is painfully off!

Not a giant song, but the track of "Seeds and Stems" by Commander Cody is horribly out of tune. There are a couple Byrds "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" tracks that have big issues too. Even so, I like the songs. Somehow, they work despite the band being in different simultaneous tunings.

Like my uncle said when I pointed out the out of tune slide guitar.
''Like that matters when the playing in this great.''
He gave me his original copy of layla and other assorted love songs even though he named his daughter after that song.

    I love that song

Huge Beatle fan here too (Harrison is the best).
In the Beatles Gear book,it is stated that the solo in WMGGW was "treated".because it didn't sound "Beatley" enough. This song shows the humility of Harrison, who could have whipped out his own wonderful masterpiece solo, but chose to bring in EC to make the others behave and get along.

Speaking of out of tune....when Queen is freeform singing "We Will Rock You",it's supposed to be in E,yet when the first C power chord comes in,you can tell it's off.A student brough that in yesterday, and it's bad. They should have corrected that one.

"Angel Baby" and "When a Man Loves a Woman" are both very out of tune but they sound perfect- maybe better than if they were in tune. "Helter Skelter" also comes to mind.
