Cafe Tacuba

Does anyone know anything about this band?

I haven't been too enamored of Austin City Limits move into "alternative" (alternative to what, I might ask) music lately, although I really enjoy a lot of music classed as "alternative" (I wish ACL would stick to roots and/or country), but there have been a couple of exceptions. I just got done watching a rerun of Cafe Tacubas performance on ACL and I'm absolutely floored.

I don't have the words to describe what I feel was an inspired performance--suffice it to say it was the freshest music that I've heard in ages.

I don't really know anything about this band except that they come from Mexico and are IMHO brilliant.

Can anyone tell me anything about them or recommend CDs?

Now if I only understood Spanish...

I don't know much either but I saw them play in Detroit last year and they were great. Apparently in Mexico City they draw a 100,000 people to a gig. Good stuff though.

Saw them at Hollywood Bowl three years ago or so... again at Universal Amphitheatre in '05. In both cases, they were part of multi-artist concerts and stole the shows! Had the audience in screaming hysterics. Music's very infectious... even if you don't understand the language. (I'm in that camp, too, Cassady.) Another great Latin Alternative band is Kinky.
