I love this place
I'd just like to comment on how cool the TDPri is. If you've not visited other forums on the internet on a regular basis, you may not realize how good we have it here.
I've been into weight lifting since I was 18 (I'm now 33), but over the past year I've really pursued it more than I ever have. I decided that I'd educate myself better on anatomy & physiology and the chemistry of nutrition and supplements. So I've been lurking at bodybuilding.com for about a year. I've got less than 25 posts I think.... ...and the reason for that is this: Any time a "newbie" posts a question....ANY QUESTION....the immediate response from the locals is SEARCH. They almost refuse entirely to answer a general question from someone without several hundred posts. And they also have a thing called "rep points" or "reps". Your reps are listed out beside your screen name and avitar. When you make a post, other members can click on your reps and either give you a positive or negative rating, based upon the quality of your post. Almost like feedback at eBay, except that its all anonymus. Vulgarity is allowed. No subject is off limits. Period. Flame wars erupt on a daily basis. Even illegal "substances" are openly talked about and bought and sold via PM....think about what substances are commonly used in bodybuilding. There is a huge wealth of knowledge there. There are several doctors of medicine that are regular contributors there. They often talk way over my head (but I'm learning). But a simple question like...."My B string keeps breaking. What should I do".....is immediately flamed....with a tag of "See that search button? USE IT NEWBIE!" So kudos to Paul and Chris, and everyone here on the TDPri for making it such a pleasureable place to be.

Right on man. There are no strange undertones here either. This site doesn't feel like it has a hidden agenda. Everything is out front and accounted for and from what I've read, there are several highly skilled and knowledgable people here exchanging good, useful information. It's a good vibe.

As a former powerlifter...
...trainer, nutritionist, and still heavy lifter... I hear ya. It's tough to find good weightlifting sites where you can ask a question. They're there but you really have to weed thru 'em. I actually have one that I use thru a program that I bought, but you have to have bought the program to be able to register/post... the site admin is the guy that wrote the program and he is great, BUT... when I registered to the site, I started getting SPAM up the wazoo. It's always something. Actually, I found that the Bodyforlife.com forum site is really good, and that routine is FANTASTIC. It was started by Bill Phillips, you have to weed thru EAS ads, but that is my favorite for weightlifting right now. You should check out that routine, it's my favorite right now.
And I agree, this site is great... I really believe it's a reflection on the webmaster as much as the posters. Paul runs a really great website.

yeah I visit a site that is pretty much the same way (I'll not mention it except to say it has something to do with recording in your house,
The other site has the rep points also which I think plays into the idea that the internet gives you anonymity, and the ability to say whatever you want without the fear of someone tracking you down...lol...it's really a pee pee contest that says "well so what I'll give you a neg rep point" man grow up whats up with those things ...lol... overtime people will come to see who blows smoke and who knows their stuff....later oh can anybody tell me why my B string keeps breaking...

its web-based roid rage!
i wonder if there's a correlation between the substances being discussed and traded and the shortness of temper?
this place does indeed rock.

It's great being on a forum where people are smart, friendly and gracious. :D
I find that the reputation thing only works when it's a bit of fun and the user see who posts and leaves a comment as in "the thread you started was great, very funny" etc. |

All one needs to do is spend a little time at Harmony Central to know how good we have it here where the grownups are in charge. I won't even comment on the FDP...

Ah, the TDPRI,
When I found this place, I thought it would just be a resource to check in to every now and then, specifically when I had a question. Little did I know it would become a place I would hang out at. A LOT. Everyday. And as far as the other boards being rude to each other all the time, maybe it has something to do with the fact that the TDPRI is kind of like a bunch of friends hanging out at the neighborhood watering hole. We're not a bunch of complete strangers trying to have the last word. We respect each other and we respect our newbies. And we usually talk to each other as if we're sitting down at that bar, in person, having a conversation. In person, you would never tell some guy "See that search button? USE IT NEWBIE!" well, mabye some would, but most folks around here wouldn't. Yeah, this place is the crowning jewel of the internet. |

This is the ONLY discussion page I ever visit. Period.
Thanks Paul. PS - Hey Joel, I just bought an OD-3 pedal based on your recommendations. It rocks! And thanks to Chris S for getting me hooked on stacking 4ths! And to Brent (& Julie) Mason for the lesson, and to Reverbbb for the video & for stopping by to visit me at my home in Newnan, Ga. And so on and so on.............

I love this place, too, Bruce. In fact, I love you, Bruce. I love all of you guys and girls. I love Paul and I love Chris. I love little baby ducks, old pickup trucks, slow-movin' trains and rain; I love the smell of napalm in the morning; I ♥ NY; Ooh, baby I love your ways; She loves you, yeah yeah yeah; Love Me Tender; Love is a four-letter word; Love Hurts; Love Stinks; Lovey Howell; Davis Love III; love it or leave it; God is love; 'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all; faith, hope, and love; free love; Radar Love; puppy love; What the world needs now is love, sweet love; Love conquers all; All I want to do is make love to you; Make love, not war; Jesus Loves Me...
And one last thing: If love is the answer, could someone please rephrase the question? Joel |
