I've loved that guy's playing and singing for a long time. He's like the Harry Connick, Jr., of guitar. John's father, Bucky, is also a jazz guitar wiz.

I caught John here in Toronto a year ago performing with a who's who of the local jazz scene. He stole the show! A great entertainer.

Thanks for the link
What a cool performance!
I drove 80 miles thru a blizzard to see him in Indianapolis several years back. My girlfriend adores him, and the tickets to the show were my birthday gift to her. Killing time before hand, we ran into the entire band, John, brother Martin on bass and Bucky--a personal hero of mine--on guitar, on their way to the show. They were a class act. Each gracious, personable, and willing to chat for a few moments. My girlfriend was delighted. Attendance was hurt by the weather, but they put on a terrific show. If you get the chance, I strongly recommend that you check him out. He's got monster chops, but keeps his performance very musical and accessible. Kojack |

He's in San Francisco this SATURDAY if anyone in the Bay Area is interested. I've seen him at Yoshi's. GREAT SHOW! John is amazing on that thing and quite a smooth voice as well. If you see his show (and I recommend you do) sit near the front so you can watch his fingers tear on that fretboard.

I've been sayin' it for years
Maked me feel like Randy Quaid in "Independence Day". An outstanding entertainer - would have made it in any era. But I'm glad he's in this one. 8)

I'd say "Live at Birdland"
1.) It's live....I like that 2.) you get to hear some of his "stories"....if you've ever seen him, you know he's a funny story teller. 3.) you get a little of everything....standards, ballads, some rockin' tunes {including a duet with Grover Kemble} 4.) it's a double CD...so you get twice as much fun! 5.) you get to hear a whole lot of Ray Kennedy, too. Ray has got to be one of the finest piano players around these days.... Yeah.....I vote "Live at Birdland". It's on Telarc & is easy to find.
