Happy Valentine's Day, happy birthday ENIAC

Happy Valentine's Day!

February 14, 1946 (60 years ago today), the ENIAC (Electrical Numerical Integrator And Calculator) was unveiled. It used 18,000 vacuum tubes. Here's a 1989 interview with ENIAC co-inventor J. Presper Eckert.

Old PTP tube computers are way better than the PCB silicon chip things we use today.

ENIAC, finished just in time to be a bit too late. I can't believe I've lived within an hour's drive of that machine my entire life and have never laid eyes on it.

Fender has been around 60 years too, eh? Look at how computing has advanced in 60 years from the ENIAC. Look how good guitars are basically the same. Leo knew what he was doing.

Neat article, yegbert! The history of computers is just fascinating -- it might well have been the "Machine That Changed the World" program that steered me into Computer Science! :)
