Worlds Fastest Indian!
I went to the NYC premier last night at the Tribeca Regal! What a great movie!
Anthony Hopkins, who stars in the movie, was there and said a few words and was most gracious to all of us during the reception. The screening room only holds 90 to 100 people, so it was a very intimate setting. This movie is destined to become a timeless classic like "On Any Sunday", "A Christmas Story", "This is Spinal Tap" and the list goes on. People clapped and cheered during the show and everyone seemed to enjoy it immensely. This movie is great whether you're into motorcycles or not. A wonderful story.

It was really cool. Not a big bugdet movie. Just great acting over a great story line. Hopkins truly embraced the character he was portaying and did an excellent job of it. Even if you're not a motorhead, you'll dig it. My wife loved it too.

illegitimi non carborundum? Illegitimi Non Carborundum "Don't let the bastards grind you down" According to Safire's New Political Dictionary, this is "a pseudo-Latin phrase meaning 'don't let the bastards grind you down'. Small signs and plaques carrying this message have appeared in U.S. business offices and army posts for at least a generation, since General "Vinegar Joe" Stilwell used it as his motto in World War II. Carborundum is a trademark for silicon carbide, a leading commercial grinding substance...In politics, the motto was popularized by 1964 Republican nominee Senator Barry Goldwater, who hung the sign in his office." (--from Safire's New Political Dictionary, p. 353)

Fun trivia
The movie opened in my area last weekend. I haven't seen it yet, but I just got an email from a member of my British Car Club who was involved with the making of the movie as the "Bonneville Technical Director".
He said to watch for a DVD planned to be released in the future that should contain a documentary about the making of the film which should be as entertaining as the film itself. He was also an extra in the movie if you can spot a guy wearing a pith helmet with stickers (his original that he wore at the Salt Flats in the 50's/60's). He also said two of the club cars get spotted in the film, A red LeMans MGB and green & yellow Sebring-nosed Sprite.

That's too cool Tdot.
Hey, I have a couple of the small, original movie posters from the actual preview. They're bound to worth a few bucks to a collector some day. Any way we can turn that into a few bucks for TDPRI? I'd be happy to donate one.

the best movie I've seen in a while, kept me on the edge of my seat, the back story is great too. Directed by Roger Donaldson who's very first film was a documentary on Burt Munro. Great family flick too.

MAN i'd rather see a well shot lower budget movie with NO computer graphics and a great story line over the 99% of over budgeted Hollywood junk that is usually way too long, overly animated and with poor story lines. Did anyone see "The Motorcycle Diaries?" That was a terrfic film.

I had to revive this thread because I now have an indirect connection to the movie and the star.
But first I did see the movie shortly after my last post, and I loved it. A bit of history, real dialogue, believable characters, great cinematography, and suspense with action. All without blood, guns, or explosions! What a fun movie, that was not an assault on my senses or sensibility. Now, my update- A couple weeks ago I happened to take a trip to town to get a replacement for a dead cell phone. While I'm there a friend calls and asks if I want a leather coat. "Uh, I don't think so, why?" Well he was at the shop of a leather specialist and said the guy was going out of business for retirement, but there was something I had to see. So I stopped in and met Ken who was in the process of clearing out what was left of his hand made products, and extra materials before giving up the lease in a couple days. Ken showed me his very last custom made leather coat. It's sort of a cafe style motorcycle jacket and it's my size, well at least on the hanger. I tried it on and he and my friend were laughing themselves silly as I stood in shock in front of the mirror. Then one of them said "that coat was custom made for you". Well not really, but it was a perfect fit, and I couldn't believe it (they couldn't believe it). Now I know that his off the shelf leatherworks usually have gone to big city folks with high incomes, because of the 4 digit price tags, and his custom work is for movie and rock stars. He said the cost of the bullhide alone that went into this coat was over $500 when he bought the leather years ago. So I didn't even pretend that I was about to take it home. Now that Ken is over 70, going fishing is in his heart but the business isn't. He made me and offer that even my wife would approve. So where's all this leading? Well of course you know that I bought it (sssh, for less than the price of an Affinity). Ken also has a photo scrapbook of famous folks he has worked for... what do I see in his book? Anthony Hopkins wearing the same jacket (that Ken made for him) worn in the beach scene early in the movie. So there you have it, Sir Anthony Hopkins and I share a tailor. Well...uh, yah that's it. If you made it through all that, here are some pics of my jacket, same cut as Sir Anthony, but has the off center zip and no chest pockets. It also has some other modern features, and the decorative green trim is the same as custom leathers he did for a pro racing team (theirs were tan leather with red trim, and matching pants). ![]() Close-up with flash (below) to bring out the green, in natural light (above) it's hard to notice, sort of a dull olive, moss, army green. ![]() Lucky me! Now who wants to sell an Indian for the price of a Honda scooter?
