Any opinions on the Gretsch G6117HT...

That MF is offering at an "amazing deal" of $1199?

I love the idea of owning a Gretsch, but know nothing of these so-called "anniversary" models. I've seen the G6118 advertised for over $2000 around, and there's a "G6117T" around as well.

Anyone played or owned this model, or have any opinions on whether this is anywhere near worth it (or whether some of the lower-priced Gretsches would be better?)

Pretty sweet, if you ask me!

Note that it has the HiLoTrons, which is Gretsch's single-coil pickup. Not a bad pickup at all, but not a Filtertron, either.

If I was gonna get one of those, I'd most likely swap in a set of TV Jones Filtertrons and put a Bigsby on it!

Cheers, Tim

Judging by the body shape, it looks to be pre-fender. Those are still nice guitars, but aren't as accurate as the newer ones since Fender took over. The electronics could be bit spotty on the ones from that era. Still a good guitar, and a great price. You might pop over to www.gretschpages.com and see if there's been some discussion on these.
