How to handle putting up a hate fence?

Last yr we moved bought the house my wifes grandmother owned. It is in a very rural village. The neighbors are abit off all around us to say the least. I sense they view us as outsiders. Anyways the neighbor that borders our back yard has a pool. Its a older woman and her 2 middle aged live at home children. They live in their back yard 24 hrs a day. Literally. The play music pretty loud, and have a boxer dog that every time we set forth in are yard becomes a major bark fest. We have a shephard that has never barked once, if she did I would correct her. They do nothing. My wife finally broke and decided we are putting up a hate fence. The neighbors have a chain linked fence which I think is stupid around a pool anyways. Should I feel bad because the neighbors will get a bur up their butt when the fence goes up?

I like my wife just want our privacy and yard back.

Hate fence , aha ! Something like this :......

I'd get a Fender Twin Reverb too , to make sure they'll realize you're still there ...

This is not the time to worry about your neighbor's feelings. They aren't respecting you or your property. You have every right to occupy and enjoy your own back yard. Actually, they will probably benefit from your fence and should pay for at least part of the materials and labor.

Creepy.

Build the fence. Build it strong.

If your neighbors ask why you're building a fence, tell them it's to contain the litter of pigs that you're planning to get.........

From what you describe I would have no qualms about erecting a 6' brick wall.

my fences keep the back neighbours horses out...;)

my human neighbours are cool, I don't fence them off....

anything that walks up the road can wander in though... like the other morning, I walked out front to catch some early morning rays...

and there a huge Bull about to wander over......

he ripped the lower branch off the Hoop pine in the foreground soon after.. the swine... errr, bovine...

MOooooo...

Just check the town ordinances before you put it up. Follow the rules, then they have no recourse if they have a problem with it.

The best neighbors are the ones you don't ever see, hear, or talk to. I never understood the whole neighborly thing. I didnt buy my house to make new friends, I bought it to live in. Same way with my job, my co-workers are not my friends, they are my colleagues. I go everyday for a paycheck and that is it.

I would love to put up a hate fence, but I have a biggish yard and on a corner lot. It would cost a fortune and most of it would have to be waste high or lower to make the City happy. So at this time, just not worth it.

You certainly should not feel bad, and why assume that they will be offended?

Wow I feel for you. Our neighbors on the back side aren't as terrible as you describe, but they do have two whiney/screaming young kids and a yippy dog. We had already put up a wooden privacy fence on the sides (that both of those neighbors went in on) and I actually asked the back neighbor if he was ok ripping out the chainlink and erecting a wooden fence. I did all the work, but he went in half on the price, and we're both happier. It's just nicer for privacy, and to me chain link fencing looks horrible.

Good luck!

Another way to go would have been to mow your backyard in nothing but the sickest speedo you could find, every day. That way they would have paid for the fence. As far as the dog. A " Bark Arrester" works great for our neighbours little yip box. When it hears the dog barks, it sends out a very high frequency, high energy responce. I turn it on sometimes at night. Humane and works great and is uni directional to not bother other dogs.

My brother has really strange neighbors, his neighbor cut down one of my brothers trees, theyíve had property line disputes, then the guy put cameras outside one trained right on my brotherís back yard. He also put up one of those little orange vinyl things like you might see where they're about to excavate to mark the property line.

My brother finally had enough and bought a wooden privacy fence. The fence people wanted to know if they could work on the neighborís property and my brother went over to ask. They didnít answer the door, but did call the police claiming he was trespassing.

I canít imagine living next to people like that.

I certainly would not call it a "hate fence" and then leave it in your digital foot print.

Check your local codes and ordinances to make sure that you have you do it correctly.

Most houses in suburban Australia have timber or Colorbond fences that block view, and often trees as well. Hence, we don't call that style of fence a hate fence. Its just a fence.
