Good stuff...

Childers is a frequent guest on a local college radio station that's a favorite of mine (WSGE, Gaston College).

He's also heavily represented on their playlist.

Good stuff. Haven't caught him live yet, but I'd like to.

dude i used to DJ on that station around 89/90, i and another student, had a show that ran on Sunday nights where we got to play rock and alt rock stuff.... they usually played what we referred to as "music for the Geritol generation" lol it was mostly big band, i always tried to sneak in the Wes Montgomery, i also dug the Artie Shaw stuff ...

I started listening in the mid 90's and they were still doing a lot of big band then, but they've really cut back and are now primarily Americana, with a healthy evening weekend dose of blues and beach music.

They also have a jazz guitar show that runs a couple of nights a week. It's host is a mod on another Fender forum, and may post here occasionally.

I think they've kinded of molded themselves after another great North Carolina station, WNCW, but with a bit less bluegrass and acoustic music.

I love both stations, but don't get a very good signal for WNCW.

I don't know what I'd do without WSGE sometimes. Earlier this week I heard Uncle Tupelo's "Graveyard Shift" on my drive into work. That always makes my day.

Hey you Charlotte area guys, Checking in from Wesley Chapel here. A good friend of mine used to play with David years ago in a band called "Gut Wrench". Some fairly different music, with different lyrical content. Good to see someone local making somewhat of a name!

Saw them a year or so ago at the Cats Cradle in Chapel Hill. They were opening for Two Dollar Pistols.

Kind of an odd assortment of musicians. Lead guitar looked like he fit in better with heavy metal.

Pretty good show. Dave Childers kept knocking over guitar stands from the second act. He wasn't drunk, just a little goofy.

i think they've had a lineup change since then the bass player looks a lil rockabilly and plays a dano longhorn, the guitar player is hardly metal, clean cut plays a SG mostly....

DC's a good bud and a great songwriter. he led the way for roots music in the Charlotte area in the '90s (he's from across the river in Mount Holly). he's had major turnover in the band in the past year and a half -- the only player from the previous era is his son Robbie on drums. he added Mark Lynch of the Lou Ford Band on bass and Randy Saxon of Mama Said on lead, and the band is 10 times better now. Childers is a true force when he gets rolling!
