Have you been to Pandora.com?

ok, go to http://pandora.com

you type in the name of an artist you like and it plays you a radio station that it makes up based on that artist plus other artists that are kinda similar. It's pretty cool and right now there are no ads yet.

Its very cool for me at work cuz in my building I cannot pick up any local radio stations, must be all the tin foil, sheilding and copper tape I have laying about , but anyways this pandora gives me a cool station to listen to. Thought you all might like it too. My two stations I have been enjoying my "Hank Williams" station and "Lyle Lovett" ststion. A lot of the music it picks are other artists I know, others are completely new to me.

That's great, I'm listening to it right now, I searched for Led Zeppelin and it stuck some Black Sabbath in there for me too. 8)

This is AWESOME!!! I entered "Bruce Springsteen" and got Dire Straits & CCR... They got all my favourite artists with the first few songs! This is so great.

Thanks so much for that link!!! 8)

Very good stuff, even has some rather obscure singer/songwriters. 8)

Best. Thing. Ever.

I mean, I could say something flippant about allowing a computer to choose which music I should like, but I think I'm capable of filtering out most of the total crap by now.

I put in "The Clash" and got Gang of Four, The Jam, and the Toy Dolls, as well as a bunch more. Not bad at all.

I'm pissed off about it. I started with Son Volt and two tunes later had Garth Brooks.

There's a reason they call it Pandora, folks. You're looking for trouble if you go there!

My experience...

Great concept, but the execution wasn't consistent. Good on Waylon Jennings... not so good on Elvis Presley. Fair on Jerry Reed. Poor on Joe Strummer (got him completely wrong, playing only some soundtrack stuff that emphasized a melodic country aspect). I was impressed that it had Goldspot, a new L.A. band that hasn't begun to get national airplay yet.

Great for changing moods . . .

I tried a few different bands, and they all worked pretty well. Lots of great twangin' when I keyed in Bill Kirchen (although there were some surprises there). There was also quite a bit of leeway with Jimmy Buffett. The real interesting grouping came when I tried The Meters - got great tunes including a Booker T & The MGs track. Right now, I'm listening to an Allman Brothers grouping:

Stormy Monday - AAB
Mystery Train - Legion of Mary
Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple
Going Home - Ten Years After
Pegasus - AAB
Time and Time Again - Counting Crows

All in all, a cool site! Thanks! :D

What is the fee to join?

I hate it when you have to go through a bunch of work only to find it is some insane price!

That's just me tho'

I'm digging this. It gave me some cool bands that I'd never heard of. It all of a sudden stopped and told me I needed to register. Of course, I figured it would be a subscription service, but they do have a free option. I picked that and so far, so good. I was even reading in the fine print and it says you can submit your own band to be played. I might have to look into that...
