I played my usual Saturday night gig. We had a great crowd. We were up, maybe, 30 people from last week. The dance floor stayed full. They were into it and having a great time. We even did a song that we'd never even tried before, and it came off great (except for repeating a lyric in the wrong spot......that was my goof). Even picked up a gig for the 16th of next month.

As well as this past Sat. went.........I'm not looking forward to next Sat. If we have 2 great gigs in a row......I don't know what I'll do.

had a belter actually!

played bass for my favourite band (the tacticians) at café de paris in picadilly circus. it's an all original club from the 1920s. big wide carpetted staircase down from the balcony to the main room opposite the stage and huge crystal chandelier hanging over the dancefloor and everything. very special room. great sound. the dressing room had crushed velvet lined walls and the v.i.p lounge had four full-size 4 poster beds in it!

they just added keys to the band the whole band was on it the crowd was captivated and the whole atmosphere was amazing. i just love their songs. they make the hair stand up on my arms and i frequently well up on stage.

great band. i feel so lucky to be able to play with them.

doesn't stop my band getting jealous though!

Did a great benefit show ...

with three other Des Moines-area funk/R&B bands.

Raised about $2K for Hurricane Katrina victims that had been relocated to bee-you-tee-full Dez Mun-ez, Iowa.

Each of us played 1/2 hour, then did a half hour jam at the end. Sold T-shirts, people registered for Christmas families, it was ALL good!

Peace.

I was a fill in guitar player for a local (Michigan) band the Twistin' Tarantulas. It was a very cool gig, we did jazz, Rockabilly, Punk, Blues, Country, and even metal! It was a lot of fun going from "Atomic Cocktail" to "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker!"

Fri. Nite

Benefit at an art gallery. Played with our regular band, then we backed Barry Melton. People dancing and yelling. My amp died, played thru a Blues Junior. Local vintners pouring good wine too.

Last weekend?

OK, played the Main Street Grill in Round Rock on Friday on the dobro, played the Salt Lick Barbecue in Driftwood on Saturday, again on dobro, and played Alice's Restaurant in Niederwald on Sunday, on the Tele. All locations in Texas, near Austin.

Got 4 gigs this weekend, including one near Houston. Life has been reasonably good for the past couple of months. I'm facing band issues now, though.

Sports bar in Bergenfield, NJ

Packed the joint, doing 3 sets of sweaty classic rock (Stones, Doors, Tull, Chuck Berry, all that good moldy old stuff).....my unmodded Deluxe Nashville (ok I changed the white middle pickup cover to black) singing thru my 30 watt VALVESTATE MARSHALL (love the tone on mine) miked thru the house PA.....(I bought the soundguy a beer before the sound check on and you'd think I bought him a car.....he did us right all night....great sound, excellent monitors....I never sang better....everybody's harmonies dead on)......dance floor's jammed.....girls climbing up on stage to dance, shake & shimmy....one's trying to push her cans in the keyboard player's face....we're laughing like hell......place is crowded from the first song and stayed all night.....everybody's buying the band drinks....soundguy said we were the best band to play there in 2 months....owner says we can have the house gig if we want it.....did "What I Like About You" for the 3rd encore and tore the roof off the freekin' joint. Who says I'm gettin' too old for this? Had to be one of my top 5 all-time best gigs. I'll never be anywhere close to famous but what a d----d good time. Man we rocked. whew!

We played the Sappore Cafe in North Beach, San Francisco for the 70th birthday party of Uncle Frank, the original walking antique. Our band (Uncle Frank's Workshop) with Uncle Frank at the mic had our best show yet. Frank does all this crazy beat-ish spoken word stuff backed by 2 acoustic guitars and drums. We had a concert violinist sit in with us. She was fantastic! We swamped her and demanded that she join the band. So tasteful. It is a real joy to play with real pros. She gave us a real Americana sound.

fun. fun. fun.

we did ....we hadn't had a full practice in a month and a half (drummer went to evening shift) it was not as bad as it could have been, but worse than it should've been...biggest screwup was rythym guy has had his tuning on his acoustic in open G and tuned back for the gig but somehow he was a half step off, of course when we started playing he looked at moi and the bass player like we're wrong......"ok everybody's out of tune except the rythym guy"...funny now

A 21st birthday party on Friday and a wedding on the Saturday.
It was my birthday as well on the Friday. 44.
Another year closer to oblivion.

Right...on...!!

Mine were nowhere near that exciting. Fell ass backwards into a dinnertime gig with a guy on Friday night for $50/guy. It was mercifully short, at least.

Saturday night, played with Joe Boyd Reynolds at Longhorn Bar in Caldwell. Hadn't played with that band in a couple of weeks, we were minus the fiddle player, so the piano player and I had to work a little harder. It was a mediocre night at the bar, but a lot of fun playing with them again and the band was in top form.

Sunday, played with Clay Harrell at a charity auction down in Buda. We got delayed a full hour by the auction, but folks were dancing and the event coordinator wanted Clay's email and phone # so hopefully she could steer wedding planners, party planners, etc towards us.
