Guess I'll be sittin' out for awhile....
Smashed my dang fingers in the garage door last night. Was pulling it down and made the mistake of getting my fingers in the crack between the panels. Got the left-hand ring and middle fingers all bruised to heck, both on the pads and under the nails. Owww-chee!
Oh well. Time to do some listening, I guess. |

cvan's slide recommendation is a good un. I teach a few kids at our church and there is one 10 year old that has limited use and coordination of his hands due to heart problems, mutiple surguries and a few strokes when he was born. He wants to play guitar in the worst way! His grampa gave him a small acoustic. I tuned it to open G so he can at least make some sweet tones from strumming it. His mom tells me he plays that guitar all day and night..to the point of going outside and playing and singing to the cat...as the cat is the only one who will listen after a while! Anyway, I thought long and hard about what I could do to get him started since he can't fret with his disability. I decided to fix up a geetar for him and start him on slide. The lad is giddy with anticipation at the thought of learning. His joy and determination not only amazes me, but is truly an inspiration. |

That'll heal up quicker than you think.
I crushed the bones at the nuckle on my pinky of my fretting hand about 4 years ago. Had surgery 3 days later, but started playing a day after I got the pin out. I still have a screw in there, but believe it or not, I use my pinky more than ever. playing slide in the meanwhile will hold you over, though! |

Nasty. I'm sure anyone who's read this thread will be feeling for you. Just the mere thought of a hand injury makes any guitarist uneasy.
But I find that whenever I injure my hands I become a slightly better player. As it heals and I get playing again I have to think about what I'm doing and try new things to compensate for the pain/stiffness/whatever. |
