Apologies to Dave W. for the misunderstanding.

I guess everyone has their own idea of "California rock".
Given that one of the prototypes of "California Rock" is Fleetwood Mac, I'm not sure geography is the best source for the definition. (O.K. Lindsey is from Palo Alto.)

BTW, isn't GFR from Flint, Michigan? I don't care either, but if I remember correctly, I cared in 1973.

Unfortunately, Dale Watson wasn't the only one to link 70s rock with modern country in this thread, so your unqualified statement that making the link is "colossally dumb" could reasonably be applied to everyone who made the link. It just goes to show how careful one should be before making sweeping statements, particularly insulting ones.

Afterall, we wouldn't want the moderator to engage in name-calling, rush to judgement or mis- characterizing someone's post now would we?

Good thing there are rules in place to prevent that.

Well, I thought I had apologized earlier, but if you didn't catch it, I Officially Apologize for assuming you had no source for your initial comments. :-) CS

Weeeelllll.....

I guess there's guys like the Derailers and Dale who like to do things "Old School".

Then there's "New Country" which I believe is aptly personified by our own KZLA Cowboy

I think I'll stick with Old School.

Maybe it's because it's the line of the song, and he can't fit the word California in?

I can also say that the stuff on the radio is not country, but you might. Who knows what "type" of rock music he's talking about. I thought the line was funnier then heck when I heard it, and laughed my butt off because I thought it was so true.

I can clearly hear some 70's Rod Stewart/Springsteen/Bad Company on those "country" stations.

"Colossally dumb", wasn't that a Pink Floyd tune?

I've seen Dale Watson in concert once, and have his Live in London CD, but that's the extent of my familiarity with him. Based on that, my overall impression is that I like his style of music - but his complaining about "What is... or isn't Country" gets tiresome quickly. Country music has always had a cheesy Pop side to it throughout it's history. Like Zappa once said, "Shut up and play your guitar!"
