Visor? I don't need no stinkin' visor... (hockey content)

So... how many pucks does Mats Sundin have to take in the head before he wises up and wears a visor full time... He got popped but good last night. Almost as good as he got it just two years ago.

I know the players sometimes go on about the difference in seeing the ice, but it's mandatory for the younger kids coming up in thier leagues, so I really think it's just what you get used to or force yourself to adapt to.

As a young-un I played defence, and I couldn't fathom not wearing either a visor or cage. I just hate seeing someone take a hard one off the noggin and get seriously injured unnecessarily...

P.S. The "new" NHL RULES!!!!!!

How are you liking the "no red-line" rule. I've not made my mind up yet. Verdicts still out. I guess time will tell. I attended Detroit v. Columbus pre-season last week and it was one of the worse games I've seen. Although that may be because Columbus couldn't get out of the penalty box the whole game. I didn't get a lot of the new rules- however I had no commentary to explain them.

Wow. Can you imagine how someone feels during that half-second or so in which that black dip-can sized thing is hurtuling towards them, and then the horrible pain that follows? Ouch x.o

I love no red line (and the Flyers)...

I'm a big Philly fan too! They gave that game away yesterday! I'm still not convinced Esche is the guy, I was surprised to see him play actually! Bobby better go buy a real goalie. So strange seeing Forsberg actually playing there...

Has anyone else noticed how the games have opened up with no red line? At least one "two line pass" goal last night because it opened up the neutral zone. Between that rule and the no clutch and grab officiating, it's "you snooze, you lose" for less skilled teams. Now if we can get rid of the instigator penalty and let teams even up cheap shots themselves, high sticks will be thing of the past. Remember the old days? Get your stick up on Gretzky and the next shift Semenko's out there with your number looking to cave your skull in. Now that's hockey...

Seriously though, what a vast improvement to the game the changes have made (shoot-outs and all) especially the smaller goalie equipment equating to an immediate increase in sniper goals from futher out!

Don't understand why Mat's doesn't wear a visor
but it is his choice and his career.

I remember watching Bryan Berard lose his eye a few years ago.
The worst moment in hockey I have ever seen.

I can't stand the shoot out. Makes it look like tournament hockey.

Talk about one brutal game last night was MY team - The Flames. I've been a Flames fan since they moved from Atlanta.
But last night, holy smokes they were bad.
Very tough to watch...

But at least hockey is back!

But regarding the visor issue, look at Yzerman - these are serious injuries that can jeopardize entire hockey careers in one shot.

I'm all for visors. The NHLPA likes to have their cake and eat it too. They want to be a union to look after their players salaries, but they don't want to act like a union when it comes to workplace safety, which is what this is. I really hate seeing a guy bleeding out of his eye on the ice during a game. That's not macho, it's just not right.

That's my .02

Shawn

The Wild!

Sorry about that butt-whumpin' we put to your boys last night there Country Shawn!

:D

The WILD scoring six goals? Unheard of.

I'm afraid the new rules will not favor them though. They are known for working the trap and winning a bunch of 2-1 games.

Visors are for Europeans, so I guess it's okay for Mats to wear one.

I couldn't agree more! It won't come up for serious consideration at the NHLPA until someone like a Sundin or a couple of players like that actually get a career ending bonk on the coconut within a short period of time and it becomes a more public issue.

Sorry about your Flames! :( at least you have a team! And a good one at that, really, last night notwithstanding. We're still hoping against hope someone will shoot the lock off thier wallet and put a franchise in our brand new building...

So I turned on the Stars/Kings they dropped the puck, I got up went to the kitchen, came back ....it's 2-0!!

4-0 at the 1st intermission, and I'm SICK....then they come back and score 5 to win it....

I LOVE the "new" NHL...red lines have always been a pet peeve ('course I'm no "old school" hockey fan :D ).

Flyers fan here also. The Rangers just outhussled the Flyers in the 3rd period last night. The Flyers have to work on their power play. They were like 1 for 9.
