I really dont get it (serious rant content).

I just got home from Fremantle (the local cafe strip) after a date with a gal that I have known for awhile (no folks not the doctor ).The night was going fine , watchin the cricket & eatin dinner, finished up with coffee & a nice stroll down to the art gallery down the street.
(this is where things go well F**KED UP).
we walk through a group of thugs , & one gives me the hip & shoulder. Now my whole life I have made a concerted effort to avoid fighting. But I have seen this move one too many times, so I knew what was coming next(the king hit).so I turned to see if it was actually coming, (it was) but I managed to avoid coppping it on the cranium , instead got a shiner on the bottom lip.****ing *******s in this world i tell you what.5 guys standing there saying " come on make something of it tough guy" (actually worse than that, but you get the drift). What is 1 guy who is lookin out for the gal he's with gonna do? I was mad as a cut snake I tell you, but not having any broken teeth, & just a cut up lip , I just said"take it easy- what do you think youre doing? you wanna prove how tough you are? theres 5 of you & 1 of me" then walked off.I know this may sound like a wussy thing to do, but all I cared bout was my date getting the hell outta there safely.
What makes A**holes do something like this? do they see a guy out with a girl & think "oh lets F*** up his night"?!? WTF y'know?

& more importantly , where is a nice slab of Alder when you need it(ie a tele).

now to put on some Pantera.ah, sweet metal eases the pain.....

If it's any consolation, I'm sure the gal you were with was far more impressed with the way you handled it than if you had gotten into a fight.

The way I look at it, we can't control what other people do, we can only control what we do, and you did the right thing.

But you're right, it does suck. Compensating for a sense of inadequacy can really take its toll on the rest of us.

I take the stand that it's better to walk away and be thought a wuss than to shoot five jerks and end up as Big Toby's roommate for 20 years.

That kind of thing can be very, very difficult to put out of one's head, though. You did the right thing by walking away.

You done it just right, brother

There was no other way to go. That wasn't a movie; we all love action movies where the hero blows guys like that away with a big old pistol - but in real life that doesn't work. Too messy, plus who wants to carry a big old gat around all the time?

I'm glad you got out quick with minimal damage. I'm sure your friend is, too.

Funny thing: why do guys do that stuff? Have you ever met a girl who was impressed by the incredible manliness of a drunken wanker who hangs out with 5 other drunks and tries to start fights? I haven't.

You made a quick decision to walk on and avoid further trouble. If you tried something else you would have lost because they had numerical superiority.

In addition - you just plain did the right thing. People don't have to fight for nothing. I am no church-type, but I know how JC would've handled it, and you did it too.

Yep, you handled a very unpleasant situation just right. Sorry you had to handle it at all...

Cheers, Tim

Don't put yourself down by thinking this was a wussy move. On the contrary, the whole macho thing is WAY overrated at best, and pretty lame to boot. I've known more guys who have ended up having their face rearranged because they just couldn't walk away.
In my book you did the honorable and best thing, as supported by others here. Violence solves damn little, if anything.

I think guys that do that sort of thing have listened to too much Pantera.........ok! I'm just kidding........You did the right thing, as others have said. Including coming here to rant about it. It helps clear your head and you're around a pretty mild-mannered group here. Sorry you had to endure that, bro...but, glad you took the high road. That can take a pretty big set, IMO. You got the lady out of there safely, bottom line.

No, it would have been self defense.

Really? Maybe for Bernard Goetz (sp?), but not in the real world.

Smart move....

Sorry you had to endure that kind of crap, but you rose above and kept your lady, dignity, and class in one piece. Good for you!

Karma will take care of those jack*sses, believe me.

Last time I checked, that incident occurred in the real world, friend. Our man Simonc had a rough one, we all offered a little encouragement. It was nice...let's not turn it into some bleeding-heart rant.

BTW, if the individual's life is in danger...it IS self defense.

The lip will heal, the ego takes longer but it heals up pretty good too. Take consolation in knowing the guy that did this will get it all back one day.

You're in Austrailia so you probably know all about a guy named Nat Young Now there's a guy that had it coming.

Bleeding-heart rant? What the hell?

I think the fact that he survived without shooting anyone suggests ipso facto that his life was not in danger.

And if the individual's life is not in danger, it IS NOT self defense, whatever your politics.

But thanks for trying to take this one off the rails, friend.

Bleeding heart rant. Sheesh.

yowch!

dude - that looks nasty!

fwiw - it sounds like you handled it pretty much perfectly and with considerable dignity. it'd unbelievable that people who act that way are free to roam in society.

if a dog behaved that way it'd be put-down.

you know the song fight test by the flaming lips? it's appropriate for more than one reason right now.
