Don't suppose they were Brits abroad? :( Unfortunately, it's becoming all too common here in the UK with the thug element starting to become the norm rather than the exception.

You did the right thing. Walk away with pride. Good for you.

:D Peter

I'm glad you got out quick with minimal damage. I'm sure your friend is, too.

Funny thing: why do guys do that stuff? Have you ever met a girl who was impressed by the incredible manliness of a drunken wanker who hangs out with 5 other drunks and tries to start fights? I haven't.

You made a quick decision to walk on and avoid further trouble. If you tried something else you would have lost because they had numerical superiority.

In addition - you just plain did the right thing. People don't have to fight for nothing. I am no church-type, but I know how JC would've handled it, and you did it too.
I could not have said it better myself.

Simon, you did the right thing, mate. You acted bravely, nobly and with honor because you protected your friend while taking the high road. You assessed the situation perfectly within the scant seconds with which you had to think.

Whenever I next get over to Australia, I'll buy you a beer and toast to your courage and honor! :D

I don't know, Simon. It looks like this was kinda like a good movie, judging by the email the lady sent you. The good guy gets the girl! Don't know if I'll ever make it to Australia, but you and Joel have one fer ol' Greg! Hope the lip heals up right!
