Apparently it was due to complications during "routine surgery." I grew up with this guy and I'm especially saddened. http://www.musicradar.com/news/guita...ee-dies-571954

Very sad news. I played Ssssh. so many times that it wore out.

He inspired a generation of players who tried to emulate his style post his searing Woodstock performance.

I've never really listened to his music properly, but I always liked that Woodstock clip. Any recommendations on what to listen to?

At that time, he was the fastest player on the planet. I was in a guitar store in Kansas City many years ago and talking to a sales guy about a guitar. There was a player in the back of the store with his amp cranked and playing the riffs from Alvin at Woodstock. After several minutes we could not carry on a conversation because this guy was just too loud, this from almost 50 feet away. I said to the salesman, "You should tell that guy to turn down" he thinks he is Alvin Lee". The salesman said "Well, it is Alvin Lee, and I'm not going to tell him anything". Turns out he was in town for a concert. I would have stayed to meet him but my ears couldn't take the pain.

He was a major childhood hero.
The first "speed demon/shredder" guy I ever heard.
He, and Jimi really made Woodstock, for guys like me.
Loved the Cricklewood Green album, wore it out in 71/72.
I can't see a red 335 and not think of him.
Thanks, Alvin!
