Anyone else watching the Westminster Dog Show?
I enjoy hearing about all the different breeds. This year our Welsh Terrier female's littermate is competing. She will be judged tomorrow, first in the Welsh group and then hopefully in the Terrier group tomorrow night. We know the breeder so we're hoping she does well. Ours only made it as far as Best in Kitchen.

I watch it with my dogs every year . My springer spaniel.thinks they are a bunch of pussies and the puggle thinks they are FABULOUS and hums show tunes as they prance in circles.

I'm not watching currently, but it's a pretty fascinating scene, people trotting around the ring in suits and skirts and stuffing treats into their dog's mouths. Gotta say though, I'm in the camp that thinks breeding dogs for show rather than for work isn't a good thing for the breeds.

If they were only bred for work, we'd lose a lot of breeds. Society hasn't required as many ratters, herders or specialized hunting dogs as they did a century ago. Lot of breeds are out of work except as pets. Many of those dogs also compete in agility and trials; which is still just a show. Probably a lot are bred just to catch frisbies now. To keep breeds pure and still capable requires dedicated breeders who rely on shows to produce sales. Its difficult to easily pick a side for me. Sort of like zoos. I'd rather they were free but not at the expense of watching them disappear. Seems everything has a negative side. I just like the dogs.

I like it.
But I have to admit, the prices people pay for an Animal that wants nothing more than to eat from the Garbage and drink from the Toilet is a little hard for me to believe.

I kinda miss Joe Garagiola doing the color commentary and coming up with baseball analogies.

Our resident Milady ,Tilly the Countess von Tuppence, and her consort Olly ,both sort of Tibetan/Cairn /Lhasa or something similar would watch it if they knew what it was .Tilly loves all dogs and humans but Olly had deep psychological damage before being rescued and prefers to watch both dogs and humans on telly .
