I carry a little aluminum opener on my key chain, from DeFalco's Homebrewing Supplies in Houston.

I never could get the hang of the lighter thing. Just tonight my buddy opened my beer with one. He's been trying to teach me that for years, but to no avail.

At least opening it with your teeth is no longer the craze.

Cheers,
Doug

When I read your post, I was wondering how the @##$ do you open a bottle with a lighter? Whadda ya heat the cap up or sum crazy thing?

So, I googled it... and ! H311, I've done that a billion times, but it ain't a lighter thing, I've done it with lighters, hammer handles, screwdrivers, cartridge cases, tabletops and no tellin' how many other objects, too...

Still, personally, I'd just as soon use a church key... but if I were to pick a favorite, it would be the old time opener on the wall or a drink box.

It's hard to beat this old standby.

I hate it, though, when I assume a bottle is a twist-off and it's not. Man, that hurts like hell.

The counter top is a good opener too but that is relegated to bachelor life...

Yes, SWMBO would not be amused!

Maybe you could get your own bar in your own man-cave and relic that!

I don't know how far it goes back but it is well, pre-internet...

The character Horace Rumpole in "Rumpole of the Bailey" used the expression and that series began back in 1975.

Ayesha the 'She' of Henry Rider Haggard's book (1887) was 'She Who Must Be Obeyed'. It's been a while since I read Rumpole but I believe the connection is made explicitly.

For those who use lighters, try a full commercial plastic water bottles using the cap to grab the side of bottle cap, lots of leverage. Myself, I keep a bottle opener on my key ring.

You know, I was always wondering why a paint-can-opener-thingee was doubled up with a bottle opener. As I've seen no painting stuff that has that kind of top.

These things also can be used to adjust one's truss-rod. So while you're painting and drinking, you can do set-ups too!

These work well for a keychain type opener, even has the slot on top to pop the tabs on cans.
