So long and good riddance. I've fought long and hard to get rid of Directv, and it feels great. I really needed to unplug from corp America. Paying 75 bucks a month to watch commercials? No thanks. The straw has finally broken the camel's back.

Ditch the land line, the smart phone data plan, satellite radio and put that and the DirecTV money into a can. At the end of the year you'll have money for a vacation.

I'm getting to be right there with you, I just got notice yesterday that my cable bill is going up in March. I think I've finally had it, I only have basic cable and it's mostly background noise when it's on. I'm going to look into a digital antenna and maybe go back to netflix.

I dumped direct tv 5 years ago. I also threw my cell phone in the lake! I've since become a better guitar player (I'm more relaxed too!)

Remember to keep all correspondence and dont confirm your phone number to anybody calling "is this (your name here)". we got billed for 200buks about 2 months after our "final bill" was paid. They said we had unpaid porn and NFL charges. Of course we never did that. after 6-8 months of different bill collectors trying to nail us down they finally quit. BUT we did all the right stuff....ie: writing a letter sent deliver confirm...etc. good luck....anyway we went to dish but when this contract is up we are done.... I get good HD receptuion with a digital antennae.....14 channels.....not bad!

After spending a week at my sisters in Nashville who only has digital tv with maybe 10 watchable channels I am sticking to cable.

Dish just wrote me a nice letter declaring their LOVE for me, but due to evil forces at work throughout the empire, they are going to HAVE to raise my bill by 5 bucks, and add another buck for something to do with my DVR which mostly threatens to turn itself off 'cause I haven't farted recently. I picked up a couple of antennas at COSTCO, I think I'm gonna try them and see what's available, then get a Roku or two for the TVs and write to Dish and tell them how much I love them but Dart Vadar is going to shoot me with the Death Star if I don't quit paying them almost a 100 bucks a month.

Secret benefit from change. Maybe my wife won't watch FOX news 150 hours a day.

I'm actually not worried about that. my credit rating is through the roof and my asset to liability ratio is insanely good...(all thanks to my wife...lol). I can rebut their shenanigans to any lender should I need a loan. Everybody (even lenders) know they are crooks. don't fear the reaper!!!

ce24, glad you can say that, they attacked my credit rating with a venegance, all because of their own fault, I attacked back, but I didn't have attoney's or other help, just one guy against the machine.

I discontinued service, they were suppoosed to pick up their boxes, they never did...then tried to charge me for them. I tried to charge them storage fees. We went back and forth for almost two years until they finally quit. (many phone calls, many certified letters, their attorneys involved, etc). Before I threw their boxes in the dump, they owed me over $1,000 in storage fees....needless to say never got it but it gets a good laugh from people when you hear the full story.

good for you tele...glad you came out on top. It's certainly a vortex situation thats hard to get extracted from. Im sure hoping that dish will prove to not be such a hassle.....I won't be surprised if it's a fight tho. they have my card number so I suspect I will have to get a new card at the end of it.
