My new guitar...

Yep, after a couple of bad-to-very-bad years, I finally had a fairly good year, played a lot of gigs, made some decent money with my day job, etc. So, I decided to treat myself to a little something to make up for selling my Gretsch Country Gentleman a few years back.

While I was in Colorado in July, Paul (in Colorado) Honeycutt and I dropped by Wildwood Guitars in Louisville, where I fell in love with this 1967 Guild Starfire III:

Here's the headstock, notice the plastic facing has shrunk just a little...

It plays like butter, feels absolutely wonderful in my hands, and sounds amazing.

Cheers, Tim

Indeed Tim!...

....cool score!

Now tell, what's a song or two that you just have to play on this guitar?

Funny how some guitars I own "make" me play certain songs. My Les Paul? I can't have it on for longer than 2 minutes without playing "Night Prowler" by AC/DC!

My Tele? Almost always play have to play the opening to "The Wind Cries Mary" with it nice and clean.

I dig that guitar--good for you for treating yourself to something nice!

NICE!

That is an absolutely awesome guitar.

Now time to break out the Grateful Dead's 1st album to hear one in action!

Congrats!

Thanks!

It seems to want to play Buffalo Springfield songs. I'd note that Stills used a blonde Starfire III for the first two Springfield albums...

Cheers, Tim

Nice . . .

Way to go, Tim. It's great when you're able to get something new and different. I picked up a '67 Starfire III project last spring - it needs the original color (cherry red) redone - otherwise, it's good to go. I also have an old T-100 which is the same guitar but with the second pickup or the Bigsby. What I love about these things is the feel of the neck - one of the best profiles I've ever felt! Plus, they are just plain cool-looking!

Have fun with the new axe! And maybe get some sound clips up for us to listen to.

Dean

I'd probably attempt Nugent's "Hibernation" 8). Definitely awesome score! Congrats.

Tim, I believe those are the original, venerable Guild HB-1 humbuckers. It all seems to be there. Even the "brad" markers at the Vol. /Tone knobs (been known to fall out). Those tuners weren't the best Guild used but if they seem to work fine....You should pick up this little bad boy and make it a complete Guild '67 package. Anyway, nice choice.

Cheers, Paul

I think Steve thought it was you playing the Buffalo Springfield licks at the store that day. It sure got his attention. I love Wildwood Guitars!
And while I didn't want to influence your GAS attack, I'm glad you bought it. You need a guitar like that,Tim. It just suits you somehow. Between the Guild and your Tele, you're set!

Gorgeous guitar!

I just discovered Wildwood Guitars, having just moved here. I played a '67 CS Tele that was outstanding! Super light and acoustic-like resonance.

Did the guy working there tell you all about his guitar with scalloped neck?

I went there with the guitarist in my band (I'm on bass) and we were there about an hour, I guess. While there, we heard the dude (Lance, I think, was his name) mention it to every customer who came in the store.

"Yeah, well, I use a scalloped fingerboard..."

Yeah, I'm finally getting over my Gretsch with this one! Hard to believe, but I think I like it more! The neck feels more like home to me.

Hehehe, it was you playing "Rock'n'Roll Woman", and it did pull Steve right out of his office!

Now to rebuild my almost nonexistent guitar chops!

Cheers, Tim
