The article and the title seem confusing to me.
They haven't even dug at all the sites yet, they have found a crate but didn't examine the contents and the team leader says they are digging in the wrong place. Why if you were the leader would you be using your assets in the wrong place? To me it seems possible they still might find something, but it's hard to conclude anything based on that article. |

There's reasons to have buried them, if you're the ones knowing where they are, only, and you anticipate you may need them against Marxist guerrillas or a resurgent nationalism in the Indian subcontinent. I would've flown them back to Australia, but there may have been considerations we just can't know now. They may have been in need of refurbishment from exposure to seawater or had 1-2 systems that did not check out and the planes weren't airworthy; goodness knows all what. |

Anyone hear of the scrapped Spits buried in Scotland. The instruments were painted with radium, which in the seventy years since, has seeped into the soil.
A nearby beach is contaminated apparently. |

Yes, very confusing. In previous articles about the site, they mentioned how they were able to get a camera of some kind down into a hole and it revealed what appeared to be parts of a Spitfire and then all the speculation about crates, etc, started.
Now, suddenly they're 'digging in the wrong location' and can't find anything? Wha? How about digging in the stinking camera hole location where you viewed plane parts! heh. (Granted, I'm no Indiana Jones, but something just seems really off about all this.) |

Shake it off. Someone will provide a dig with Spits in one condition or another. Too much history has been told. I believe that they are there. I'm not anyone to heed as an advisor or someone with a clue.............I think there are many buried treasures that have still have been lost. I am just going with the numerous reports of such probabilities.

It did seem a bit too good to be true... 140 Spitfire's, in near perfect condition. Awww it'd be great... |

Let them keep digging. It is better than the reality shows, where the bumpkins are wrassling with giant oysters or something. I hope they find something. But even if they don't. |

My father-in-law had a hand in burying some in north Queensland, he along with a couple of his mates who were working at the same base always had plans to go dig a few back out, but there's a major shopping centre built over the top of them now - they're still crying in their beers whenever they hear of one being sold now.
