Some Bird Photos from Today
Shot these at Elizabeth Morton National Wildlife Refuge on Long Island today.
#1 Blue Jay, I'm not sure why people hate these guys so much, they are beautiful and quite clever. One of my favorite birds. ![]() #2 Red-breasted Nuthatch, not sure if the end of the branch being a bit OOF is too distracting or not but I like it. ![]() #3 Tufted Titmouse, I really like pose on this one. ![]() #4 My Blue Jay Friend coming in for a closer look. ![]() #5 House Finch (male) ![]() #6 House Finch (female)

I wonder if the birds are thinking "these pictures are for the humans" :O

This guy seems to be saying:
"You bought WHAT pickups for your Tele?" I like Bluejays. I just happen to like their bretheren like Steller's Jays, Florida Scrub Jays, and so forth even better. I remember in Volusia County one time, a mother Scrub Jay tracked my girlfriend and I down and led us through some brush to her baby, who had been knocked out of a nest or almost carried off, or something. We grieved with her a little while over the lifeless chick, then with her permission we buried the little hatchling. She really seemed to understand what was going on, exactly. |

This is a Blue jay chick that i saved from drowning. his nest mate was going berserk hopping around on my wheelbarrow, i thought he was young to be out of the nest so i went over to have a look and this little one was drowning in the rain water that accumulated in the wheel barrow. I sat with him in the sun for over an hour while he dried off and warmed up. His sibling was quietly watching from the lower branches of the tree they fell out of. I put him back in the tree and never saw them again, but i like to think they were both fine.

There is a type of Jay found in the Pacific Northwest commonly called a Camp-robber Jay. They are very smart and very bold. They have frequently been known for stealing bacon right off a camper's campfire and frying pan. Just like Blue Jays they also steal shiny things or interesting looking items. I have seen one take a spoon from a bowl and fly off with it. Maybe to eat the food off the spoon, or maybe just because it was shiny, I don't know.

As always, I run to look in these threads. ;)
And I mean 'As always' both for the pics/threads and me running to pop in to look...
